United States Patent Q 3,044,249 DEVICE FOR LOCKING RING HOLDERS F RING RAILS 0F RING SPINNING AND TWISTING MACHINES Giorgio Ancarani, Milan, Italy, assignor to Zinser Textilmaschinen G.m.b.H., Ebersbach, Fils, Germany Filed Apr. 4, 1960, Ser. No. 19,715 Claims priority, application Italy Apr. 6, 1959 6 Claims. (Cl. 57-122) The present invention relates to a device for locking ring holders of movable ring rails of ring spinning and twisting machines and, more specifically, refers to such devices of this type in which the ring holders can individually be unlocked from the ring rail.
With heretofore known devices of the type involved, in which the locking and unlocking is effected by manipulation of screws, the unlocking operation is rather tedious and time-consuming.
Other heretofore known locking devices with snap action work rather noisily and in an unsteady manner thereby ha-rmfully affecting the roving to be spun or twisted.
It is, therefore, an object of the present invention to provide a device for locking ring holders of ring rails of spinning and twisting machines, which will overcome the above mentioned drawbacks.
It is another object of this invention to provide a device for locking ring holders as set forth in the preceding paragraph, which will assure a fast and vibration-free locking of the individual ring holder.
It is still another object of this invention to provide a device as outlined in the preceding paragraphs which will have an automatic action.
These and other objects and advantages of the invention will appear more clearly from the following specification in connection with the accompanying drawing diagrammatically illustrating partly in elevation and partly in section a device according to the present invention.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a partial view of a spinning machine having the ring holder clutched to the ring rail by permanent magnets, the two outer spindles having the spinning rings shown supported in operative condition, whereas the intermediate spinning ring has been released and lowered.
FIG. 2 illustrates, on a larger scale, the arrangement of an individual spinning ring support with the spinning ring supported in working position.
FIG. 3 is a view similar to FIG. 1 but shows an arrangement in which, instead of permanent magnets, electromagnets are provided for coupling the ring rail and the ring holders together.
The locking device according to the present invention is characterized in that magnetic means are provided for holding and securing the individual ring holder on the movable ring rail in working position. These magnetic holding or locking means may be arranged between the ring rail and the individual ring holder in such a way that, whenever desired, locking connection can be effected between the individual ring holder and said ring rail. In this way, the detachable individual ring holder may, when engaging said magnetic means, also in working position remain firmly locked to the ring rail until it is desired to detach said ring holder by interrupting the magnetic force effect.
As magnetic means there may be employed an electromagnet or a permanent magnet. In the first instance, an interruption in the current supply to the electromagnet will suflice to disconnect the individual ring holder from the electromagnet. In the other instance, the two members namely the ring holder and the magnet may be detached from each other by mechanical means as for instance wedge means, screws, eccentric means, levers or 3,044,249 Patented July 17, 1962 the like. If in such instance the two members are again to be locked to each other, it is merely necessary tolift the individual ring holder to such an extent that it moves into the efiective range of the magnet. Thereupon an immediate and safe lockingof the two members will be assured.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, and in particular to FIGS. 1 and 2, the arrangement shown therein comprises guiding means 1, for instance in form of guiding rods, attached to a ring rail 4, and along which guiding rods the individual ring holders 2 are axially displaceable by means of guiding sleeves 3. Inter-posed between each ring holder 2 and the movable ring rail 4 is a magnet 5. In the particular embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the magnet 5 is assumed to represent a permanent magnet which is mounted between the ring holder 2 and ring rail 4 adjacent the guiding rod 1. The device shown in the drawing occupies its locking position in which the ring holder 2 is locked to the ring rail 4. Connected to ring holder 2 in a manner known per se is a ring 6 which may be of standard design customary in connection with ring spinning and twisting machines.
The device furthermore comprises a lever 7 connected to an eccentric 8 which is eccentrically journalled on pin 9 in ring rail 4. Thus, it will be evident that in order to disconnect the ring holder 2 from the ring rail 4, it is merely necessary to press the lever 7 downwardly in the direction of the arrow 10 whereby ring holder 2 will be pressed downwardly and will thus be moved away from magnet 5 thereby interrupting the power connection between magnet 5 and ring holder 2.
While the lever-eccentric arrangement just described has proved very simple and effective, also any other mechanical disengaging means for disengaging the ring holder 2 from the ring rail 4 may be employed. Furthermore, the individual ring holder may be guided by means of stationary guiding means or by movable guiding means. Furthermore, the shape and contour of the guiding surfaces may be selected in conformity with the particular requirements involved.
In the modification of FIG. 3, instead of the'magnets 5 of the FIGS. 1 and 2 modification, electromagnets 5a are employed to support the ring holders 2. Each electromagnet is in series with a normally closed switch 11 which, when opened, will deenergize the pertaining electromagnet and release the pertaining ring holder.
It is, of course, to be understood that the present invention is, by no means, limited to the particular construction shown in the drawing but also comprises any modifications within the scope ofthe appended claims. Thus, it is also possible to connect the permanent magnet or electromagnet to the ring nail in a manner different from the arrangement shown in the drawing and it is further possible to design the contacting surfaces of magnet and ring holder not merely as plane surfaces but also as spherical, semisp'heri-cal, conical or other surfaces.
What I claim is:
1. In a ring spinning and twisting machine having a movable ring rail: a ring holder for movement with said ring rail, and magnetic means interposed between said ring rail and said ring holder operable for operatively but releasably coupling said ring holder and said ring rail together when the ring holder is positioned adjacent said ring rail.
2. In a ring spinning and twisting machine having a movable ring rail: guiding means arranged adjacent said ring rail, a ring holder displaceably mounted on said guiding means for movement toward and away from said ring rail, and magnetic means interposed between said ring rail and said ring holder operable for operatively but releasably coupling said ring holder to said ring rail when the ring holder is positioned adjacent said ring rail.
3. In a ring spinning and twisting machine having a,
movable ring rail: guiding means arranged adjacent said ring rail, a ring holder movable on said guiding means toward and away from said ring rail, electromagnetic means interposed between said ring rail and said ring holder operable when energized to couple said ring holder to said ring rail, and means for deenergizing said electromagnetic means to release said ring holder from said ring rail.
' 4. In a ring spinning and twisting machine having a movable ring rail: guiding means arranged adjacent said ring rail, a ring holder movable on said guiding means toward and away from said ring rail, a permanent magnet interposed between said ring rail and said ring holder operable for operatively coupling said ring holder and said ring rail together when the ring holder is moved into the proximity of the ring rail, and means selectively operable fior moving said ring holder away from said ring rail to release the ring holder from the influence of said permanent magnet by which the ring holder is coupled to said ring rail.
5. In a ring spinning and twisting machine having a movable ring rail: a ring holder for movement with said ring rail, magnetic means interposed between said ring rail and said ring holder for coupling said ring holder and said ring rail tog-ether, and mechanical means connected to said ring rail and operable selectively to disengage and space said ring holder from said ring rail to reduce the influence of said magnetic means with regard to coupling the ring holder to the ring rail thereby to permit the ring holder to be readily separated from the ring rail.
6. In a. ring spinning and twisting machine having a movable ring rail: a ring holder for movement with said ring rail, magnetic means interposed between said ring rail and said ring holder for coupling said ring holder and said ring rail together, eccentric means connected to said ring rail and operable to engage said ring holder when said ring holder is coupled to said ring rail, and lever means operatively connected to said eccentricmeans and operable to actuate the latter to move said ring holder away from said ring rail.
