(Cl. 114-71) My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in collapsible door supporting wall partitions and more particularly to a convertible partition for enclosing an open boat cabin or the like.

A particular object of my invention is in the provision in a partition construction of this character of an arrangement of parts comprising a wall partition and a hinged door which is to be utilized for enclosing a normally open cabin portion of a boat or the like.

A further object of my invention is in the provision in a partition construction of this character that is readily collapsible into a stored position without affecting the design characteristics of the boat or the like.

Yet another object of my invention is in the provision in a collapsible partition of this type which includes complementary partial wall sections each individually hinged to a structural member with each wall section hingedly supporting on opposite corresponding edges thereof complementary door panels whereby the partition when in distended position affords wall enclosures or the like, and hinged access doors.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings showing the preferred form of construction, and in which:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing my improved wall and door partitions in collapsed or stored condition;

FIG. 2 is a perspective view similar to FIG. 1 but showing the wall and door partitions in a distended or cabinenclosing position; and

FIG. 3 is a fragmentary detailed sectional view taken from line 33.

My invention relates to a collapsible door supporting wall partition utilized in enclosing a cabin or the like. In the presentation of the description of my invention and as depicted by the accompanying drawings, I have incorporated my invention in a boat construction. However, it is to be understood that this represents only the preferred embodiment of my invention and is not to be construed as a limitation to its use or adaptation to other forms of construction. In the accompanying drawings I illustrate an open cabin boat having a hull 10. The null is provided with a main deck 11 and a forward extending lower deck 12. The lower deck 12 is associated with a raised bunk deck 13 which extends beneath the covering fore deck 14.

The raised bunk deck 13 is substantially U-shaped in that it extends about three sides of the lower deck 12. This bunk deck 13 is provided with extension members 15 and 16 extending rearwardly from beneath the fore deck 14. These extension members 15 and 16 when i in collapsed condition, wherein they lie in a horizontal "ice plane as seen in FIG. 1, will sit upon lowered portions 17 and 18 of the bunk deck 13.

The extension members 15 and 16 are each pivotally connected by hinges 19 or the like to an exposed edge 20 of the bunk deck 13 as seen in FIG. 3. This edge 20 lies in substantially the same vertical plane as does the end cabin beam 21. Pivotally connected to the corresponding edges 22 and 23 of the extension members 15 and 16 are complementary door panels 24 and 25. The pivotal connection between the door panels 24 and 25 and their respective extension members 15 and 16 is made through hinges 26 or the like. As these door panels 24 and 25 must extend from the top surface of the lower deck 12 to the bottom surface of the end cabin beam 21, they are of a greater length than their respective extension members 15 and 16. The door panels 24 and 25 are constructed so that they will lie in facial abutment with respect to the vertical surfaces of the inner side walls of the bunk deck 13 adjacent the lower deck 12. To accommodate the greater length of the door panels 24 and 25 they are arranged to extend through substantially the full length of the passageway between the ends of the bunk deck 13 defined by the lower deck 12 as seen in FIG. 1.

The procedure for converting the open cabin into a closed cabin through the use of my invention is as follows:

The door panel 25 is pivoted about its hinged connection 26, from its vertically disposed horizontally extending position, into the horizontal plane of the collapsed extension member 16. The extension member 16 together with the door panel 25 is then pivoted about its hinged connection 19 into a common vertically extending plane as seen in FIG. 2. In this vertically extending plane the extension member 16 will extend from the top surface of the bunk deck 13 up to the under surface of the end cabin beam 21. The door panel 25 will extend from the lower deck 12 to the under surface of the end cabin beam 21 as seen in FIG. 2. The extension member 16 is fixedly latched in such raised position by a sliding bolt lock 27 or the like, carried by the end cabin beam 21. The corresponding extension member 15 and door panel 24 are pivoted into their extended position in the same manner as heretofore described. When the extension members 15 and 16 together with their complementary door panels 24 and 25 are pivoted into their distended position as shown in FIG. 2 the boat is provided with an enclosed ca bin including hinged access doors.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

A collapsible door for an opening of a cabin of a boat which boat has a bunk deck, comprising:

(a) complementary panels for closing said opening,

(b) each of said panels including a movable wall portion hinged at its lower edge portion to the bunk deck and adapted when not in closing position with respect to said opening to be disposed upon said bunk deck,
