Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES B. SIITT, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
DEVICE FOR OPERATING TILTING TABLES IN SHINGLE-MACHINES.
Specicaton of Letters Patent No. 30,364, dated October 9, 1860.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs B. SUITT, of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain nenT and useful Improvements` in the Construction and Arrangement of Shingle-Machines, of which the following' is a full and exact (ilescription, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters marked thereon.
Figure l a perspective with a Section cut out to show the operation of the block rest or rocking table, and Fig. 2, is a section showing the ledge upon which the pro-ject-ion of the rocking table slides.
A is a wheel upon the shaft With the crank Q, and operates the eccentric Wheel B, being held in gear by the cam C, which is a half circle and rests upon the ledge in the eccentric wheel B, and connects with the shaft of thewheel A by means of the arm P, which surrounds the same affording a sure and even contact of the Wheels A, and B.
The knife gate D, is operated in the grooves IV, and carries the knife E, and rocking table F, which is operated by the spring K, shoe J, and weight L, which lift the projection I, therebj7 raising' the end of the tab-lerF.
The following is the operation of the ma.- chine: The block, being placed upon the table or rest F, and the crank Q, revolved the Wheel B, 1s revolved and being attached to the knife gate D, imparts a reciprocating motion to itas often as the short and long arms of the wheel B, come in contact with the Wheel A, the same being held in gear by the cam C, and vibrating arm I. As the projection I, upon the end of the table F, comes in contact With the shoe J, on the top of the folding spring K, which is hinged at N', resting in the notch in the shoe J, the projection I, is lifted above the point of the ledge H. As the knife gate D, is again withdraivn the projection I, upon the table F, Sliding upon the ledge H, holds the end of the table up. As soon as the projection I,1 is Withdrawn from the notch in the shoe J the weight L, brings the shoe J back out of the Wav and as the gate again comes doivn the Weighted end of the table F, which has the projection I, causes one of the vibrations of the tilting table as it falls down allowing the same to pass up under the ledge H, as the same is again withdrawn. thereby vibrating the block so as to cut the thick and thin ends alternately from the block.
That I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The folding lever spring K, With shoe J, and weight L, with weighted table F, when operated in connection with the Wheel B, cam C, connecting arm I), or their equivalents as and for the purposes set forth.
JAMES B. SUITT. 1Witnesses ALBERT E. Inos'roxn, JoiiN H. Rnns'roezn.
