siding at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pillow Sham Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had thereinto the accom- I panying drawings.

This invention pertains to improvements in pillow-sham holders, having for its object to eifect the ready adjustment of theholder to the size of the bedstead; to-hold the sham in an upright position, and so as to hang smoothly; to adapt it to be readily elevated, and thus retained 'when the bedis occupied; to preventthe marring'or defacement of the bedstead, and to strengthen the same; and it consists of the combination and construction of parts, substantially as hereinafter fully set forth and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure-1 is a front View of my improved pillow sham holder, the holder being shown elevated in dotted lines. Fig. 2 .is a plan thereof. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detailedview of the springbracket, and Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views.

In carrying out my invention I employ a frame, A, preferably of stiff wire, and made in two sections, each section consisting of a wire frame, a, secured at both ends to a corresponding bar-section, B. The outer ends of the wires a are respectively curved outwardly and downwardly, and eachwire frame is formed into 'a loop at b, for reception of its corresponding wire frame, a, which the loop overlaps, as a means of guiding and securing the wires in position when the cross-bars B are slid to and fro. The purpose of the outward curving of the end bars, a, is to enable theshams to rest thereon and depend therefrom beyond andconceal the ends of the pillows. This construction and arrangement permit the frame-sections to be extended or contracted, whereby the holder is adapted to accommodate pillow-shams of different sizes or lengths. The spring rods or arms C0 are secured near the outerends of bars l3, and each comprises a double-coiled spring, 8, designed to hold the fabric-strip G continuously I tightly stretched, and a hook, s, towhich is 1 attached the fabric-strip. It is designed to retain the sham in an elevated or suitable position, and it may be may be made of lace, ruffies, or other delicate and highly-ornamental materiaL- The bar-sections B, after they are adjusted to the required length, are fastened together with a single screw at the inner end of each.' To hold or retain the sham-holderin position, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1, I employ springs D, which are connected at their inner ends to eyelet-screws 0 which serve in part to fasten the brackets in position, and at their; opposite ends to the rear under side of the bars B, whereby when the holder is elevated or thrown up the springs will reverse their positions and draw upon the rear side of the holder, effecting the result above et forth. 1' Thebraekets G, I construct after t e configuration of a horses neck and head, as

Having thus fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In a pillow-sham holder, the combination of the bar B, frames a, having loops 1), springs D, connecting-bars S, brackets 0 spring rods or arms 0, and strip 0, substantially as shown, and for the purpose described.
