Patented Dec. 19, 1961 3,013,713 BANKING ENVELOIE Harlan M. Whitman, Minneapolis, Minn, assigner to Curtis 1000, Incorporated, St. Paul, Minn, a corporation of Minnesota Filed Apr. 29, 196i}, Ser. No. 25,693 2 Claims. ((11. 229-7I) Another object of importance is that the same position- 9 ing means for the statement will also hold the cancelled checks of substantially the same length but of less height than the envelope toward the upper edge of the envelope so that a relatively level surface may be provided for the stamp cancellation or postage meter impression and the checks will be prevented from tilting. More specifically the invention includes the provision of a single spot of gum sealing the front and back panels together at the lower portion and adjacent one end of the envelope.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention may include the features of construction set forth in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing.
This application is a continuation in part of my application Serial Number 848,034 filed October 22, 1959, now Patent No. 2,997,225.
In the accompanying drawing annexed hereto and forming a part of this specification, I have shown the invention in banking envelopes for a particular form of depositors statement and checks, but it will be understood that the invention can be embodied in envelopes for statements and checks of other forms and dimensions and that the drawing is not to be construed as limiting the scope of the invention, the claims appended to this specification being relied upon for that purpose.
In the drawing:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the envelope of the present invention is formed;
FIGS. 2 and 3 are front views partially broken away showing two different forms of sealing means for portions of the front and back panels.
In the above mentioned drawings, there have been shown two embodiments of the invention which now are deemed preferable, but it is to be understood that changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring more in detail to the figures of the drawing it will be seen that the envelope blank 10 is of conventional outline and has a front panel 12 and a back panel of conventional form 14. Flaps 16 extending from opposite ends of the front panel 12 are provided with strips of gumming 18 by means of which, after folding, may be secured to the opposite edges of the flap from the side of the front panel 12 to form the back panel 14.
A sealing flap 20 extends from the upper side edge of the front panel 12 and has the usual continuous strip of gumming 22 along its free edge. The front panel 12 is provided with a window 24 preferably and as shown having a transparent sheet 26 extending over the area of the window opening 24. in FIGS. 2 and 3 the window 34 is shown adjacent an end of the front panel 12.
In the forms of invention shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 of the drawings the checks 32 rest on the upper edge of the single gum spot 36 or 38. In FIG. 2 a spot 36 having but little length longitudinally of the envelope is provided. Tilting of the checks 32 within the envelope is, however,- prevented by the engagement of the checks with the fold between the front panel 12 and sealing flap 20 of the envelope.
In the forms of invention shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 the statement 30 is maintained at the left end of the envelope beneath the laterally placed window opening 34. In all forms of the invention the checks 32 rest on the upper edge of the gum spot and retain the checks toward the upper fold line of the panel 12 and sealing flap 20.
I claim as my invention:
1. A banking envelope comprising a front panel having a window therein, a back panel, side flaps and a sealing flap, said side flaps being gummed to the back panel, and a single small rectangular gummed area applied to one of said panels sealing portions of said front and back panels together adjacent one end of the envelope to support elongated enclosed articles above said sealed portion, said gummed area also positioning an enclosed member extending the full height of the envelope against movement longitudinally of the envelope.
2. A banking envelope comprising a front panel having a window therein, a back panel, side flaps and a sealing flap, said side flaps being gummed to the back panel, and a single small rectangular lgummed area applied to one of said panels adjacent one end and the lower edge thereof, said gummed area sealing the lower portions of said front and back panels together adjacent one end of the envelope to support elongated enclosed articles of less height than the envelope above said sealed portion, said gummed area also positioning an enclosed member extending the full height of the envelope but of less length than the envelope against movement longitudinally of the envelope.
