An object of my invention isrto provide a device which will efficiently clean such base boards.

A further object of my invention is to provide an adjustable arrangement which will accommodate base boards of varied heights or thicknesses.

A further object of my invention is to provide an easily manipulated arrangement.

With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts of my device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

My invention' contemplates the provision of a base board cleaning device which will efficiently clean and polish the said base boards, and which includes a variety of advantages as will be apparent.

I have used the character 10 to designate a pair of spaced angle irons which are suitably connected to the further angle iron members 11, and attached to one of the members 1t) at 12 is a U-shaped keeper 13 to which is pivotally attached at 14 the lengthened rod 15 terminating in the handle portion 16, the character 17 indicating an electrical switch.

Attached to one of the angles 11 by means of the screws 18 which pass through the slots 19 and the strap 20, is a casing wall 21 from which extends the arcuate upper casing wall 22 terminating in the lower walls 2.3, and extending slightly outwardly from the upper wall portion 22 is a further wall portion 24 having a raised rib 25 formed therewith. j

It will be noted from this structure that the wall 24 is spaced a certain distance from the edges 26.

Engaging the arcuate wall 22 are the arcuate plates 27 having the slots 28 therein through which slots are re- Ceived the studs 29, with which are threadably engaged the wing nuts 30'.

Attached across the angles 11 are the lengthened shafts 31 on which are journalled the rollers 32. The character 33 indicates a transverse strap to which is attached an electric motor 34, the electric motor also being attached to one of the angle members 11. The motor drives the shaft 35, which shaft is received within a socket opening 36 within a member 37 which continues from the plate 38, which plate 38 is suitably attached as at 39l to a leather disc 40. Engaged over the leather disc 40l is the annular portion 41 of a fabric member 42 to which is attached the polishing disc member 43, the member 43 being made of any suitable buing material which has good butng characteristics and which is compressible.

The shaft 35 of the electric motor passes through a suitable slot or opening in the wall 21 of the casing (not shown). f

Attached at 44 to the various angle members 1t)v and 11 are the substantially vertically positioned straps 45 having the horizontal portions 46 and the continuing vertical portions 47, which portions 47 are retained by means of the band 48, and resting upon the horizontal portions 46 is a cylindrical container e9 having the lid 50 and handle 51, the container 49 being adapted to contain a suitable washing or detergent liquid which is to be used to clean the base boardsand attached to the bottom of the container 49 is the valve S2 which communicates with a tube 53 which tube 53 passes within the casing wall 22 at 54, the lower open end 55 of the tube being positioned just above the buiing member 43. The character S6 (see FIGURE 6) indicates a set screw which threadably engages the hub portion 37.

The device is operated in the following manner. The arcuate plates 27 are first adjusted in position so that the lower edges 57 thereof (see FIGURE 5) will be positioned adjacently to the top 58 of the base board 59. As shown in FIGURE 5, the rib 25 will be positioned substantially against the wall 60 as will the edge 61 of the arcuate plates 27.

The electric motor 34 is started by means of the switch 17 and the valve 52 is opened, allowing the cleaning liquid to gravitate through the tube 53 whereupon it will drip upon the rotating bufling member 43. The device is then pushed in the direction of the arrow 62, whereupon the buffer 43 will rapidly rotate and the cleaning liquid on the same will effectively clean the base board, without requiring any hand operations or the like.

The buffer member 43 can be adjustably positioned on the shaft 35 consistent with thicker base boards or the like by merely loosening the set screw 56 and retightening the same to the required setting, and also the natural longitudinal movement of the shaft 35 will provide a certain amount of adjustment.

2S, 58 and 61 will provide a guard means whereby the material ccntrifugally thrown from the member 43 will not ily upwardly or outwardly and will thus be confined within the buifmg area. The leather disc 40 also provides an important function in that it allows a certain amount of resiliency in the bufiing member.

It will now be seen that I have provided the advantages mentioned in the objects of my invention with further advantages being apparent;

Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts of my invention without departing from the real spirit and purpose of my invention, and it is my intention to cover by my claims any modified forms of structure or use of mechanical equivalents which may be reasonably included within their scope.

I claim as my invention:

l. A device for cleaning base boards comprising a mobile framework, a motor mounted on said framework, a rotatable bufling and cleaning, member driven by said motor, said rotatable member rotating in a plane parallel to the direction of motion of said mobile framework and parallel to the vertical plane of a base board to be cleaned, a housing enclosing said rotatable member, plates adjustably attached to said housing, said plates extending laterally beyond said housing to provide means whereby the lower edges of said plates can be adjusted to engage the upper edge of said base board.

A device for cleaning base boards comprising a mobile framework, a motor mounted on said framework, a rotatable butling and cleaning member driven by said motor, said rotatable member rotating in a plane parallel to the direction of motion of said mobile framework and parallel to the Vertical plane of a base board to be cleaned, a housing enclosing said rotatable member, plates adjustably attached to said housing, said plates extending laterally beyond said housing to provide means whereby the lower edges of said plates can be adjusted to engage the upper edge of said. base board, said housing including a side wall, said side wall including a projecting portion adapted to be positioned adjacently to a wall surface to which said base board is attached.

A device for cleaning Ibase boards comprising a mobile framework, a motor` mounted on said framework, a rotatable bung and cleaning member driven by said motor, said rotatable member rotating in a plane parallel to the direction of motion of said mobile framework and parallel to the vertical plane of a base board to be cleaned, a housing enclosing said rotatable member, plates adjustably attached to said housing, said plates extending laterally Ibeyond said housing to provide means whereby the lower edges of said plates can be adjusted to engage the upper edge of said base board, said housing including a side wall, said side Wall including a projecting portion adapted to be positioned adjacently to a wall surface to which said base board is attached, a container for containing a cleaning fluid, supports attached to said mobile framework for securing said container, a tube communicating with said container, the lower end of said tube being positioned adjacently to said rotatable member.

4. A device for cleaning base boards comprising a mobile framework, a motor mounted on said framework,

a rotatable bufng and cleaning member driven by said motor, said rotatable member rotating in a plane parallel to the direction of motion of said mobile framework and parallel to the vertical plane of a base board to be cleaned, a housing enclosing said rotatable member, plates adjustably attached to said housing, said plates extending laterally beyond said housing torprovide means whereby the lower edges of said plates can be adjusted to engage the upper edge of said base board, said housing including a side wall, said side wall including a projecting portion adapted to be positioned adjacently to a wall surface to which said base board is attached, a container for containing a cleaning fluid, supports attached to said mobile framework for securing said container, a tube communicating .with said container, the lower end of said tube being positioned adjacently to said rotatable member, said rotatable member includinga flexible disc, a compressible Ibufing member attached to said flexible disc.
