Filed Oct. 20, 1959, Ser. No. 847,645 1 Claim. (Cl. 248-156) This invention relates to a garbage can holder, and has as its primary object the provision of a ring means adapted to be set in a concrete base or the like for securely holding a garbage can to prevent dislodgement of the same, by prowling animals or the like.

A further object of the invention is the provision of such a device having means associated therewith for securing the top of the garbage can to prevent dislodgement of the same by wind or the like.

A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be readily assembled or disassembled for shipping purposes or the like.

Still another object of the invention is the provision of such a device which may be securely held in a cement base positively to prevent dislodgement of the same.

Still other objects reside in the combinations of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, all as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter and shown in the accompanying drawings wherein there is shown preferred embodiments of this inventive con cept.

In the drawings:

FIGURE 1 is a plan perspective view of one form of holder embodying features of the instant invention, portions thereof being embedded in a supporting base of concrete or the like;

FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary perspective view, partially broken away, showing certain elements of a modified form of construction which is adapted to be disassembled for shipping purposes, and assembled in situ; and

FIGURE 3 is a fragmentary side elevational view of the device in exploded relation, showing the method of assembling the same.

Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.

Having reference now to the drawings in detail, and more particularly to FIGURE 1, there is shown at an annular ring, from which depend feet 11, each of which is comprised of a shank, and a spade shaped bottom portion 12. In the assembly of the device, a hole is adapted to be dug in the ground which is filled with cement in the form of a block 13. The feet 11 are inserted in the block while still soft, and the ring 10 evened and leveled. One of the shank portions 11 is provided with an offset portion 14 from which extends upwardly a tubular rod 15 to which is secured a chain 16. If desired, a weight formed of a cement block may be placed on the ground surface with the feet 11 inserted therein.

In the use and operation of the device, a garbage can, indicated in dotted lines at G, is adapted to be positioned inside the ring 10, with its base resting on the concrete slab 13. A fastening member 17 at the end of the chain 16 is adapted to be secured in any desired manner to the lid L, indicated in dotted lines in FIG- URE 1, of the garbage can G.

In the modification shown in FIGURES 2 and 3, there are provided four (4) individual foot portions including shanks 1=1A having feet 12A substantially identical in configuration to the previously disclosed shanks and feet. However, each shank 11A terminates in a cross member 14A which is provided with apertures 14B. The cross members 14A are slightly arcuate, and are adapted to be inserted in the ends of arcuate tubular members 16A, each of which is in the form of a quarter-circle, and each of which is adapted to engage at its opposite ends one of the arms 14A formed on a member 11A. Securing pins 15D are adapted to be inserted through openings 1913, which are aligned with the openings 14B, for securing the arcuate members 16A to the arms 14A. One of the shanks 11A is provided with an upwardly extending portion 20, which is provided with an opening 20A, upon which is adapted to be seated an offset portion 15B of a tubular member 15A which is substantially identical in configuration to the previously described upright 15. A pin 15D extends through an opening 15C in offset portion 15B through the opening 20A for securing the upright tubular member 15A in position thereon. A chain 16A, identical to the chain 16 and for a similar purpose, is also provided.

In this modification the device is assembled until it assumes the configuration of the construction shown in FIGURE 1, by means of suitable pins engaging in suitable aligned openings in the members 10A and 14A, and after assembly the feet 12A are inserted in the concrete block 13, as indicated in FIGURE 3. Obviously, this last modification may be readily assembled and set up, and when disassembled will occupy a minimum of space, and consequently provide a maximum of convenience in shipping and storage.

In the use and operation, the assembled device of FIGURES 2 and 3 is identical to that disclosed in connection with FIGURE l.

From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved garbage can holder which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance.

As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as manymodifications may be made in the embodiments hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

In a garbage can holder, in combination, a plurality of shank portions, each having a pair of opposed arcuate transverse arms extending laterally from the uppermost extremity thereof, a plurality of arcuate tubular members in engagement with the ends of said arms forming, in assembled relation a ring for the reception of a garbage can, said arms and arcuate members having aligned apertures therein, pins extending through said aligned apertures for releasably securing said arcuate members on said arms, an integral upwardly extending portion on one of said shank members, comprising an extension thereof at the juncture of one of said arms, a tubular upright including a substantially right-angled offset portion mounted on said upwardly extending portion, said upright and said upwardly extending portion having aligned openings therein, a pin extended through said last-mentioned aligned openings, said tubular upright, said shank portions and said arcuate tubular members all being of substantially similar length whereby said holder may be packed in a small space in disassembled relation, and a chain connected to the upper extremity of said upright adapted to engage the lid of a garbage can positioned in said ring.
