SIMMONS D. TAYLOR, OF GARTHAGE, NEW YORK.
TRACE-BEARER FOR PAD-SKIRTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 300,918, dated June 24, 1884. I
I Application filed February 4, 1884. (No model.)
To on whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIMMONS D. TAYLOR, of Carthage, Jefferson county, New York, have invented a new and Improved Trace-Bearer for Pad-Skirts, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved trace-bearer for pad-skirts, whereby the trace willbe prevented from wearing off the skirt, and the said bearer will last longer than the usual trace-bearer.
The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the claims. 7
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal view of a padskirtprovidedwith myimproved trace-bearer. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, parts being broken away.
The trace-bearer consists of an elongated metal loop or open frame, A, which is held on the skirtB, parallel'with the longitudinal axis of the same, and through which loop the trace O is passed in the manner shown in Fig. 1, thus holding the trace on the skirt. The loop or frame A is made of brass, composition, or malleable iron, and can be nickle, gold-plated,
or'japanned. It can be secured on the skirt in different manners, as shown. It is provided at each end with alug, D, provided with screwthreaded apertures and screws F. The screws F can be passed through apertures in the straps and screwed into the lugs D, the heads of the screws being countersunk, so as not .to chafe and rub the horses skin, as shown in Fig. 1.
If desired, nuts can be screwed on the outer ends of the screws F. The loop or frameA is held in place by the screws, and it can readily be adjusted on the skirt if a series of holes are provided in the skirt.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, an adjustable trace-bearer consisting of the metallic loop A, formed with screw-threaded apertures in its ends, as described, whereby the screws may be introduced from the back of the pad-skirt, for securing said loop in any desired position.
2..The combination, with the pad-skirt, of the loop A, formed with screw-threaded apertures in its ends, and provided with screws F, for securing the loop in any desired position thereon, substantially as set forth.
SIMMONS D. TAYLOR. Witnesses:
