Description
Oct. 3, 1961 R. E. LIGHT 3,002,785
COMBINED UTILITY TABLE AND SEAT Filed Oct. 20. 1959 INVENTOR. RAYMOND E. LIGHT ATTORNEYS United States Patent 3,002,786 COMBINED UTILITY TABLE AND SEAT Raymond E. Light, 2783 Florida St., Longview, Wash. Filed Get. 20, 1959, Ser. No. 847,646 1 Claim. (Cl. 297-156) The present invention relates to a combined utility table and seat for use of campers and the like.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a combined utility table and seat used in the preparation of meals and as a support for a serving tray when eating meals at the camp site.
Another object of the invention is to provide a combination utility table and seat of the class described above which is constructed to be knocked down for transportation and readily erected for use at the site.
A further object of the invention is to provide a combined utility table and seat having storage supports for condiment holders, such as salt and pepper shakers and the like.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent in the following specification when considered in light of the attached drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the invention;
FIGURE 2 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of FIGURE 1, looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIGURE 3 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view illustrating the connection of the legs to the table;
'FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view taken along the line 4-4 of FIGURE 1, looking in the direction of the arrows; and
FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary elevational view illustrating the support of the serving tray.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several figures, the reference character T indicates generally a combined utility table and seat constructed in accordance with the invention.
The combined utility table and seat T includes a generally horizontal flat board arranged to support a seat cushion 11 at one end thereof. The opposite end of the board 10 is laterally enlarged at 12 and supports a vertical upstanding end portion 13 at the end thereof. A shelf 14 is arranged in overlying parallel relation to the board 10 and is supportedon the upper edge of the end portion 13.
The shelf 14 is provided with a plurality of openings 15 in which salt shakers, sugar containers, cups, and other pieces of equipment are stored, as illustrated in broken lines in FIGURE. 2. A pair of generally L- shaped brackets 16 are arranged in supporting relation to the shelf 14 and extend rearwardly from the end portion 13. The brackets 16 are arranged in spaced apart parallel relation and have the rearwardly extending portions thereof spaced above the board 10. A serving tray 17 is adapted to be supported on the brackets 16, as shown in broken lines in FIGURE 1, to permit food to be eaten therefrom.
A plurality of legs 18 are secured to the underside of the board 10 by threaded fasteners 19 so as to removably secure the legs 18 to the board 10. The legs 18 may be of any desired length, preferably supporting the board 10 at normal seat height.
It should be noted that the board 101 is cut away so as to be centrally narrow to permit the users legs to straddle the same when using the combination utility table and seat T.
While in the drawings the combined table and seat T has been illustrated in use for serving purposes, it should be noted it can be equally well used for many other purposes, such as holding supplies used by artists and similar uses still coming within the objects of the invention.
Having thus described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it should be understood that numerous structural modifications and adaptations may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed:
A combination utility table and seat comprising a generally flat horizontal board, a seat supported on one end of said board, a pair of substantially L-shaped inverted tray supporting brackets mounted on the other end of said board and extending upwardly therefrom, a shelf fixedly secured to said tray supporting brackets and having a plurality of support openings formed therein, a partition closing the underside of certain of said openings, a vertical end wall extending upwardly from said board in supporting relation to said shelf, means securing the opposite ends of said vertical end wall to said brackets rigidly to secure said shelf and said brackets to said board, arms extending inwardly and comprising an integral part of said L-shaped brackets overlying and spaced from said board for supporting a removable tray adjacent said shelf, support legs at each corner of said board, and means detachably securing said support legs to said board, said last-mentioned means comprising double ended wood screws engaged in the corners of said boards and the upper ends of said brackets.
