Description
Oct. 3, 1961 v. GEORGE ,0
CARD RACK DIVIDER WITH CLIP Filed Nov. 12, 1959 FIG.. 2
INVENTOR. l/AN GEORGE ATTORNEYS 3,002,632 CARD RACK DIVEDER WITH CLIP Van George, 320 Orange Grove, South Pasadena, Calif. Filed Nov. 12, 1959, Ser. No. 352,375 2 Claims. (Cl. 211184) This invention relates to card rack display devices commonly used to segregate dilferent cards and to provide information about each card displayed. More particularly, the invention involves a structural relationship between a card rack display device and a supporting panel member.
The subject matter of this invention is an improvement in card rack dividers having a spring clip member for fastening a card rack divider to a supporting panel. It has been found that customer handling of displayed cards often causes the prior art devices to become dislodged.
Therefore, it is a primary object of this invention to provide means for retaining a display rack divider upon its supporting panel.
A more specific object of this invention is to provide in combination, a support panel having front and back surfaces and an edge portion folded back upon said back surface; and a card rack divider including a relatively thin sheet of material having front and back surfaces, a divider member projecting outwardly from said front surface, and a clip member projecting outwardly from said back surface, said clip member being resiliently connected to said sheet and having a catch lip turned inwardly toward said back surface.
Another object is to provide a card rack divider device comprising a relatively thin sheet of material having front and back surfaces; a divider member projecting outwardly from said front surface; and a clip member projecting outwardly from said back surface, said clip member being resiliently connected to said sheet in close parallel adjacency to said back surface and having a catch lip turned inwardly toward said back surface.
Other objects of this invention will become apparent in view of the following description and drawings.
'In the drawings forming a part of this application and in which like parts are identified by like reference numerals throughout the same,
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a card rack support plate having a card rack display device constructed in accordance with this invention.
FIG. 2 is a partial side view taken along lines 2-2 of FIG. 1 and showing the clip relationship of the card rack support plate and the card rack display device.
FIG. 3 is a side view of the card rack display device.
FIG. 4' is a front plan view of the card rack displa device.
Referring more particularly to FIG. 1 of the drawings, there is illustrated a portion of a display rack assembly comprising a support plate panel and a card rack display device 11, which is conventionally formed with a base portion 12 and an upstanding divider portion 13. A rolled edge 14 is also provided on the side of base 12 opposite from the divider portion, said edge being spaced above said base. The purpose of the divider plate is, of course, to separate greeting cards of different groupings, and rolled edge 14 is adapted for retaining an identifying card marker upon the face of base portion 12. In addition, a clip member 15 projects outwardly from the back Patented Oct. 3, 1961 ice surface of the base portion 12, said clip being integrally formed from the plane of base 12 by rolling or swaging. Thus, clip 15 is resiliently connected to the base and lies in close parallel adjacency to the back surface thereof.
As more clearly shown in FIG. 2, plate 10 is provided with a top edge portion 16 that has been folded back upon the back surface of said plate. Clip member 15, which is adapted to be hooked around the top edge of plate 10, includes a catch lip 17 that is turned inwardly toward the back surface of base 12, The dimensional lengths of clip 15 and edge portion 16 are so controlled that as the clip is placed over the rolled edge of plate 10 and moved downwardly, catch lip 17 will spring into engagement with the terminal edge of edge portion 16. It will be apparent from the drawings that the display device thus becomes fastened to the support plate, but may be released by springing the clip outward from the edge portion.
FIGS. 3 and 4 more fully illustrate the construction and complete appearance of the card rack device by itself.
It is to be understood that the formof the invention shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example thereof. Various changes in shape and size may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the attached claims, and all such changes are contemplated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In combination, a support panel having upper front and lower back surfaces and an edge portion folded back upon said back surface; and a card rack divider including a relatively thin sheet of material having front and back surfaces, a single divider member projecting outwardly from said sheet front surface, and a clip member projecting outwardly from said sheet back surface, said clip member being resiliently connected to said sheet and having a catch lip turned inwardly toward said back surface; whereby said card rack divider is supported upon the upper front surface of said panel and is releasably held thereto by said edge portion and said clip member.
2. In combination, a support panel having upper front and lower back surfaces and an edge portion folded back upon said back surface; and a card rack divider including a relatively thin sheet of material having front and back surfaces, a divider member projecting outwardly from said sheet front surface, and a clip member projecting outwardly from said sheet back surface, said clip member being resiliently connected to said sheet and terminating in a catch lip having an edge turned inwardly between said clip and said back surface; whereby said card rack divider is supported upon the upper front surface of said panel and is releasably held thereto by said edge portion and said clip member.
