ADJUSTABLE CURTAIN BRACKET 9 .l-J l |Hli5 Filed July 23, 1959 INVENTOR.
Arm.
United States Patent 2,998,955 ADJUSTABLE CURTAIN BRACKET Allen C. Hertzog, West tloliingswood Heights, NJ. Filed July 23, 1959, Ser. No. 829,137 1 Claim. (Cl. 248-263) This invention relates to improvements in adjustable brackets that are to be used for hanging curtains and draperies on a window or door frame and more particularly to a bracket that is adjustable to accommodate various sizes of draperies while at the same time it accommodates curtains of various sizes.
At the present time if drapes and curtains are to be hung at window openings, the usual practice is to use two pairs of hangers, one for the curtains and one for the draperies. This necessitates the making of many openings in the window or door frame to receive securing elements for retaining the brackets in position.
It is an important object of this invention, therefore, to provide an adjustable bracket that will require only one pair of brackets to hang both draperies and curtains and only a few holes to receive securing elements to retain the brackets in position.
Another object of the invention is to provide an adjustable bracket that is simple in construction, eificient in operation and economical to manufacture.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
FIG. 1 is an elevational view of a pair of adjustable brackets embodying the invention, in place on a window or door frame;
FIG. 2 is an elevational view of an adjustable per se;
FIG. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view on the line 3-3 of FIG. 2; and
FIG. 4 is a vertical sectional view on the line 4-4 of FIG. 2.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, wherein like parts are designated by like reference numerals, the reference numeral is used to designate an adjustable bracket embodying the invention.
The adjustable bracket ltl comprises a mounting plate 11, that includes a pair of base end portions 12 and 13, each of which is provided with an opening 14 whereby securing elements 9 may extend through the openings 14 to retain the mounting plate 11 in position on a support such as a window frame A.
The mounting plate 11 includes a U-shaped centrally located raised or supporting portion 15 that is provided with an opening 16 in which is mounted a rivet 17.
A pair of parallel disposed L- shaped hooks 18 and 19 are secured to the face of the portion 15 and are positioned to extend in vertical alinement with the mounting plate 11 which is vertically mounted on the window A.
The hooks 18 and 19 are used to support curtain rods on which is hung curtains and in order to hang drapes over the curtains, a slide plate 20 is provided.
bracket The plate 20 has a longitudinally extending slot 21 that is adapted to receive the rivet 17 so that the plate 20 can be adjusted laterally to the right or left of the mounting plate 11.
An L-shaped hook 22 is secured to the end of the plate 24) outwardly of the mounting plate 11 as it is mounted on the window frame A and the hook 22 is vertically disposed in parallel relation to the L- shaped hooks 18 and 19 of the mounting plate 11.
When the brackets 10 are mounted on the window frame A the books 18 and 19 of the brackets 10 support curtain rods as previously stated and the hooks 22 support a rod for draperies.
In the use of the invention the mounting plates 11 are spaced according to the width of the window frame A and the plates 29 are adjusted laterally of the mounting plates 11 to support rods of various lengths on which are mounted draperies. Since the mounting plates 11 support the sliding plates 21, only one set of openings must be provided to support the brackets 10, thus, the number of openings that are needed to support the brackets is reduced.
There has thus been provided an adjustable bracket that when used in pairs will support curtain rods and drapery rods so that only one pair of brackets need to be used to support both curtains and draperies.
It is believed that from the foregoing description the structure and operation of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is to be understood that changes in the minor details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to pro vided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
An adjustable bracket for supporting curtain and drapery rods comprising a mounting plate having upper and lower base end portions provided with openings therein to receive elements to secure said mounting plate to a support, a raised U-shaped portion intermediate said base end portion and integral therewith, a pair of parallel vertically disposed L-shaped hooks secured to said U-shaped portion, a rivet mounted in said U-shapcd portion intermediate said L-shaped hooks, a horizontally disposed sliding plate having an elongated longitudinally extending closed slot therein which is slidably mounted on said rivet within the U-shaped portion of said mounting plate for lateral movement of said sliding plate, said rivet inseparably securing the sliding plate to said mounting plate, and said sliding plate having an L-shaped hook at one end thereof in horizontal alignment with said L-shaped hooks.
