Yet, particularly in the case of swingable door panels, when the locking device is in place and in a locked condition, the door panels 10 and 12 have very little significant degree of swinging movement relative to one another. Heretofore. i has b en a p oblenrtc nwvids Panel doors of the swingabie and slidable types with reliable locking means. Numerous locking devices for panel :doors have been proposed. However, all can be pried open or apart by means of iimmies'erowbars nd th like.
An object of this invention is to Provide a locking dev d in parti u ar a locking devi for doo s and the like, which cannot readily pried apart and open by jimmies and other burglary tools,
Other objects of the invention will become more apparent by reference to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanyingdrawing in which:

Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters refer to like and corresponding parts throughout the several views, the particular embodiment of the invention disclosed for illustrative purposes is shown by FIG. 1 in combination with the adjacent end portions of two panel doors 10 and 12, which may be either of the The first pin means 18 is preferably in the form of a bolt having a head 28 and a shank 30. Preferably the shank 30 from the head to the end region thereof has a smooth outside surface portion 301 and in said end region to the end a threaded portion 302. The shank 30 is insertable in sliding fit through the hole 14 of the panel door 10. The head 28 should be on the lock side of the panel door 10 and the threaded portion 302 of the shank 30 should extend outwardly from the opposite side of the panel door 10 in order to receive the fastener means 20.
The fastener means 20 in the embodiment shown are a-pai'r of'nuts 201 and 202, which are threaded for engagement in tandem with the threaded shank portion 302 of the bolt 18.
The second pin means 22 is in the form of an unthreaded bolt or pin having a head 32 and a shank 34 having a smooth outside surface. In the region of the end of the shank 34 the pin 22 is adapted for receiving the lock fastener means 24. The shank 34 is ,insertable in sliding fit through the hole 14 of the panel door 12. In this regard, the end of the shank 34 should extend outwardly from the lock side of the panel door 12 and theihead 52 should be on the opposite side of the panel door 12.

through a transverse passageway through the shank-34 of the pin 22 in the region ofpthe end thereof. Accordingly, the shank 34 of the pin 22 is provided with a transverse hole ,341 therethrough in the region of the end thereof for-receiving insliding -fit the peg 36. The said peg 36 .comprises ,a head :38 anda smooth shank 40. The head 38 of the peg 36 larger than the transverse hole 3 1 th r th sugh. In th region f h end f the shank 40 of the peg 36, there is provided an annular recess 401-for en agement by the barrel lock assembly 42.
The barrel lock assembly 42 includes a barrel casing 44 and a cylinder lock The casing 44 has a passageway 441 with an opening 'at one endthereof for receiving sliding fit the shank-40 of the peg 36. It also has a cylinder lock chamber 442 for receiving the cylinder lock and a cam chamber 443 interconnecting the passageway 441 and the cylinder lock chamber 442 for accommodating a cylinder lock cam. The cylinder lock 46 is of a conventional type. Within the cylinder lock .46 there are conventional tumblers and the like, not shown, which prevent an inner revolving plug 461 thereof from rotating until the tumblers are engaged by the stem of an appropriate key :48 inserted into the key slot of the revolving plug. Mounted on the revolving plug 461 is a cam 462 wh Qh, When the lock 42 is in locked condition and the shank 40 of the peg 36 is in position in the passageway 441, is disposed or seated in the annular recess 401 of the said peg 36. When the said lock 42 is in its unlocked condition, the said cam 462 is out of engagement with the annular recess 401 of the peg 36. To hold the cylinder lock 46 in position in the barrel casing 44, a transverse threaded bore 444 is provided through the casing 44 to the cylinder chamber 442, and a threaded set screw50 is provided in the said casing 44 which engages the cylinder lock 46 as shown. The portion of the bore 444 between the outside of the casing 444 and the top of'the set screw 50 is plugged with a plug 52 of lead, solder and the like.
The latch chain 26 comprises a number of intermediate chain links 261 and end links 262 and 263. The end links 262 and 263 are mounted respectively on the shanks 30 and 34"0f the pins 18 and 22 in sliding fit on the lock side of the panel doors 10 and 12. With the pins 18 and 22 mounted in the holes 14 of the panel doors 10 and 1 2 and the end links 262 and 263 mounted as stated, the latch chain 26 preferably just spans the gap between the pins 18 and 22 with perhaps a small amount of slack. The end link 262 is prevented from slipping off the shank 30 of the first pin 18 by the head 28 while the end link 263 is kept in place on the shank -34 of the second pin 22 by the lock fastener means 24.
It is required in the more specific aspects of this invention that with the first pin 18 extending outwardly from the panel door 10 as far as it can go with the nuts v201 and 202 in place the distance between the head 28 thereof and-the nearest surface of the panel door 10 be at least, and preferably greater than, the jimmy distance.
Jimmy-distance as used herein refers to the straight line distance from the prying end of a jimmy or the like to the most distant fulcrum point thereof (that part of the surface thereof which normally bears against a stationary surface for leverage) in which the prying action of the jimmy or the like is effective.
It is further required in the more specific aspects of this invention that with the second pin 22 fully extended outwardly from the panel door'12 as far as it can go as determined bythe head 32 the distance between the lock fastener means 24, particularly the barrel-casing 44, and the nearest surface of the panel door 12 be at least, and preferably greater than, the jimmy distance. Furthermore, with the head 38 of the peg 36 abutting the shank 34 of the second pin 22 the shortest distance between the shank 34 and the barrel casing 44 should be at least, and preferably greater than, the jimmy distance.
For maximum protection it is recommended that annular washers 54 also be employed on each side of each panel door and 12 about the holes 14. g Preferabl'y the inside diameter of the washers 54 should be at least sufi'rjcient to accommodate in sliding fit the respective shanks 30'an d 34 of the pins 18 and 22. Moreover, it is preferred that the outside diameter of the washers 54 be sufliciently large so that each-washer 54 covers a wide area. When washers 54 are used, the jimmy distance is measured from the outer surface thereof to the head 2 8; lock fastener means 24, etc.-
Materials of construction used in the locking device 16 are conventional. Generally, it is preferred too that the pins 18 and 22, peg 36, latch chain 26, barrel casing 44, cam 462, revolving plug 461, nuts 201 and 202, and

With the lockingrdevice 16 in open condition such that :thefd oor panels 10 and '12 are in unlatched condition, the end link 262 of the latch chain 26 will be ofi the pin shank 34; Usually, to prevent misplacement or less of the lock ,fastener'means 24, it is best to have the same in position on' the pin shank 34 and in locked condition. However, this is not necessary if there is a friction fit of the shank '34 or the pin 22 in the bore 14 of the door panel 12.

A most important advantage of the locking device is that the pertinent parts thereof cannot be pried open with the usual burglary tools. Yet, particularly in the case of swingable door panels, when the locking device is in place and in a locked condition, the door panels 10 and 12 have very little significant degree of swinging movement relative to one another. Moreover, no areais presented by which a jimmy or the like can obtain purchase. Hence, it is extremely difiicult if not impossible to force the locking device by use of the usual burglary tools.
Although a single embodiment of the invention and incorporation thereof in a pair of panel doors has been disclosed and described in detail, it is obvious that many changes may be made in the size, shape, arrangement and detail of the various elements of the invention, all without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as defined'by the appended claims. Thus, while the invention has been described in the context of two panel doors 10 and 12, it is obvious that only one panel door need be involved, and that in place of the other panel door there may be substituted without departing from this invention the adjacent framework such as, for example, a door jamb.
I claim:
1. A locking device for looking a relatively slidable and swingable closure member and the like to an adjacent separate member, both of said members having similarly able freely in said annular recess whereby to maintain the turnable relationship of said lock means on said shank. 2. A locking device for locking a relatively slidable and swingable closure member and'the like to an adjacent separate member, both of said members having similarly facing lock sides and similarly facing back sides, said device comprising a first pin means having a shank for insertion in sliding fit through an aperture in one of said members from one of said sides to the other with a head 1 at one end for-positioning on the lock side of said one facing lock sides and similarly facing back sides, said "o'fsaid members and at the other end means for engaging fastener element means on the back side of said one of said members, fastener element means for said first pin means, a second pin means having a shank for insertion in sliding fit through an aperture in the other of said members from one of said sides to the other with a head at one end for positioning on the back side of said other of said members and in the region of the other end a transverse peg hole therethrough, latch chain means having an end link at one endmountable on the shank of said first pin means and an end link at the other end mountable on the shank of said second pin means, and fastener means for retaining the corresponding end link of said latch chain means on said shank of said second pin means, said fastener means comprising a peg means having a shank for insertion in sliding fit through said peg hole'w ith a head at one end and in the region of the other end-an annular recess, and barrel cased lock means having a barrel casing with a passageway through one end thereof for receiving said peg shank, an open end cylinder lock chamber, a cylinder lock with a revolvable plug in said lock chamber, an interconnecting chamber connecting said passageway and said cylinder lock chamber for accommodating a lock cam on said revolvable plug, an inner lock cam on said revolvable plug seatable freely in said annular recess of said peg shank, and means for holding said cylinder lock in place, each element employed having suflicient free fit with respect to contiguous elements to provide one or both of a sliding and turnable relationship therebetween.
3. A locking device accordingto claim 2 which includes freely t urnable washer means on said first and second pin means adjacent said closure members.
