Description

(No-Model.) H. L. PRATT.
TEMPORARY BINDER. No. 299,579. Patented June 3, 1884.
. in Fig. l, containing the usual arrangements Vzo UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE HERBERT L. PRATT, OF KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN.
TEMPORARY BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming pa'rt of illlettera` Patent No. 299,579, dated June 3, 1884.
' Application ined september t, less. (No model.)
T @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT L. PRATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, county of Kalamazoo, State of Michigan, have invented anew and useful Ternporary Binder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has for its object certain improvements in temporary binders to increase their` utility.
In the drawings forming apart of this specification, Figure I is a perspective view of a construction, showing the means of securing the contents in the cover; Fig. 2, a perspective view of my new cover folded up, and Fig. 3 shows the plan of constructing said folding cover. r l
A common form of cover is shown at B B of contents F, consisting of blank leaves and stub-ends separated by a line of perforations,
a, and interspersed index-leaves containing a letter representing subdivisions of the alphabet.
' On each side of the secured end of the contents F are open recesses or notches D D. The securing-cord r is located through holes in the lower lid of the cover B, and extends upward in the recesses D, and the' free ends of said cord are inserted through the back side of the cover in holes t' t, and tied or otherwise secured, as illustrated in Fig. 2. By this means the upper lid may be thrown entirely back, as in Fig. l, thus `obviating a joint in said lid, as in former devices, wherein the cord passes up through said lid. A guide-rod, C, having an eye at each end, is located on the secured end of the contents F at a positionto allow the cord 1' to pass from the recesses D D 4o through said eyes. This rod C serves to prerectangular in form, with a square opening in the end, forming a lid, P, each side of said opening. Packages F F may be connected with this cover, as in Fig. l, in like manner as in the other style cover B, and when the cover B is folded up in book'form the lids close in, closing up the end, as in Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- 1. The combination, with a cover, and with detachable contents having side open notches in the secured end thereof, of a securing-cord and guide-rod, substantially as described.
2. A cover formed with the central end notch and alid each side of said notch, adapted when folded in book form to close one end, substantially as set forth.
e. The combination, with the detachable' contents and securing-cord, of a folding cover having the end lids and central notch adapted to fold in book form and close one end, substantially as set forth.
In testimony of the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of 7 5 -two witnesses.
