\ Nirnn STATES HENRY A. GLOW, 6F DES MOINES, IOWA.
CABINET FOR HOLDING AND ADJUSTING'BILL-HEADS, 800.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,&63, dated May 2?, 1884.
Application filed September 17, 1883.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, HENRY A. OLow, of Des Moines, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented a Cabinet for Holding and Adjusting Bill-Heads, 8m, upon or within a Table or Desk, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to facilitate clerical business in railway-offices and mercantile counting-rooms; and it consists in the combination of an endless flexible carrier, having paper-fastening devices on its surface,
with a table, stand, or desk, and a fixed tablet, as hereinafter fully set forth, in such a manner that a series of bill-heads, shippingmanifests, letter'heads, deeds, abstracts, powers of attorney, and businessblanks of various kinds, shapes, and sizes can be readily attached to and detached from the carrier, and also readily brought to view in succession, and in convenient positions for writing; thereon, by simply operating the carrier by means of a crank.
Figure 1 of my accompanying drawings is a top view, and Fig. 2 a transverse section, of my cabinet in a portable form, and adapted to be placed upon the top of a table or desk. Fig. 3 is a top view of a table or desk, showing my cabinet formed under the fixed top surface, and a section of the top hinged and turned back to allow access to the blanks attached to and carried by the endless carrier.
Fig. 4 is an end view of a table or desk in which the surface of the carrier is on a level with the surface of the top, and from which parts are broken away to reveal the endless carrier andthe means employed for connecting it with the table or desk. Jointly con sidered, these figures clearly illustrate the construction and operation and utility of my complete invention.
- A are the wooden side pieces, and B the end pieces, of aportable oblong case, that may vary in size as desired.

d d is an endless flexible carrier, preferably made of cloth, stretched over the roller 0, to
(No model.)
be operated within the case by means of a crank attached to the axle of one of the rollers, or in any suitable way.
F is atablet fixed in the case upon crosspieces 9, or in any suitable way, so that it will fill the space between the top edges of the side pieces and the rollers, and support the flexible carrier in such a manner that blankpapers attached to the carrier can be written upon as they are successively brought on top of the tablet.
h h represent buttons or hooks fixed near the edges of the flexible carrier, to aid in securing sheets of paper flat upon its outside surface. By fixing pairs of buttons or hooks on the opposite edges of the carrier and placing one or morebill-heads or otherblank sheet of suitable size across the carrier and between the buttons, and then stretching elastic cords z'over the buttons and across the sheets, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the papers will be detachably connected with the carrier in such a manner that different kinds of blanks attached at different points of the endless carrier can be readily moved to and from the tablet under the carrier, and to and from the open space in the top of a table or desk, (shown in Fig. 3,) and adjusted and handled to facilitate business in an office, and also kept safe and in order and ready for examination and use at all times.
Various forms of fastening devices for detachably connecting blanks with the endless carrier may be substituted for the buttons or hooks and elastic cords, to accomplish the results contemplated.
I claim as my inventiou 1. As a new article of manufacture, a portable cabinet adapted to be placed on a desk, and for holding and adjusting bill-heads and other blanks, composed of a case, an endless carrier on rollers, provided with paper-fastening devices, and a fixed tablet under the movable carrier, in the manner set forth.
2. In combination with a table or desk having an open section in its top surface, an
endless carrier having paper-fastening devices on its outside surface a pair of rollers placed in bearings underneath the top of the table or desk, and an auxiliary table or tablet combined relatively to each other within a fixed beneath the endless carrier, to operate portable case, table, or desk, to operate in the in the manner set forth, for the purposes specimanner set forth, for the purposes specified.
fied. HENRY A. GLOYV. 5 3. The rollers .C C, an endless carrier, d d, \Vitnesses:
having paper-fastening devices on its surface THOMAS G. ORWIG,
and edges, and a fixed tablet, F, arranged and l J. M. SIIUCK.
