No. 298,964. Patented May 20, 1884.
E illlllll Ii! WITNESSES: I INVENTOR5 hw 0mm. akfgsk hfizalf afizw/vzbzzw I ATTORNEYS ill STATES CHARLES FBANKE AND AUGUST PETERS, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
DOOR-I-SECUQRER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,964, dated May 20, 1884.
Application filedNovember 15, 1883. (No model.)
To asZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, OHARLESFRANKE and AUGUST PETERS, both citizens of the United States, residing at Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door and WVindow Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to fasteners for doors and windows; and it consists in a turnbutton and a supporting-plate for such button, having a lateral projection provided with spurs to enter the frame of the door or window, so that the plate may be held in place without the use of screws or other extraneous fastenings, said supporting-plate being provided with a fixed stop and a yielding stop, which jointly serve to hold the button in a locked position.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of a fastener embodying our -invention. Fig. 2, is ahorizontal section. Fig. 3 is a side view, and Fig. 4 a rear view, thereof.
Siinilarletters indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates the turn-button; B, the supportingplate, having a pivot, 0, on which the button turns.
0 denotes the lateral projection of the plate, provided with spurs s, which are adapted to enter the frame of the door or window by bringing the projection between the frame and the door or window, as shown in Fig. 2. These spurs s suffice to hold the supporting-plate B in position; but, if desired, a screw or other similar fastening may be added, the projection 0 being provided with a screw-hole for this purpose.
The letter D indicates the fixed stop, and E the yielding stop, whereby the buttonAis held in a locked position. These stops D E are on the face of the supporting-plate B, and when the button is turned from an unlocked to a locked position the button rides over the yielding stop E, while to return the button such stop issimply depressed by the thumb.
When the fastener is applied to :a window, the sash may be provided with a plate to protect it against wear.
WVhat we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, with the turn-button A and the supporting-plate B, of the fixed stop D and the yielding stop E, for holding the button in alocked position, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
Vitnesses:
