JULIUS WAGNER, OF SILVER CITY, TERRITORY OF NEW MEXICO.
ADJUSTABLE SHADE=HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 298,524, dated May 18, 1884.
Application filed February 26, 1884.
1 all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, J ULIUs WAGNER, of Silver City, county of Grant, Territory ofNew Mexico, have invented a new and Improved Adjustable Shade-Hanger, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved adjustable hanger for win- (low-shades, by means of which hanger the shaderoller can be held a greater or less distance from the top of the window, as circumstances may require. 7
The invention consists in the combination,
' with a rack, of a sliding block or carrier which carrier is provided with a pawl for locking it in place. The shade-roller is journaled in two carriers held on racks in opposite sides of the window-frame.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures. A
Figure 1 is a face view of my improved adjustable window-shade hanger. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, with the roller in section. Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view on the line mm, Fig. 1. Fig. iis asectional plan view of a modification of the same.
On each side of the window-frame a vertical rack, A, is held, which is T-shaped in cross-section and has upwardly-projecting teeth. On each rack A a carrier or sliding block, B, is held, which is provided in its rear surface with a vertical groove adapted to receive the rack A, as is shown in Fig. 8. Each carrier or slide B is provided with a pivoted pawl, O, at its lower edge, which pawl is provided with ahandle, knob, or button, D. The shade-roller F is journaled in the two slides or carriers B, on the opposite sides of the window-frame. On the lower part of one of the side standards of the window-frame a rack, A, I
(No model.)
having downwardly-projecting teeth, is held, on which rack a sliding block or carrier, B, is held, which is provided at its top with a pawl, 0, having a button, D. On the slide B a roller, G, is journaled. The curtain-cord H is passed over the roller G and the shaderoller F. The pawls, engaging with the teeth of the rack, hold the slides and the shade-roller in place any desired distance from the top of the window-frame, and the slide B is adjusted correspondingly on the rack A. The curtain-' cord G pulls the slide B upward, and the pawl 0 holds the said slide in place.
If desired, the slides can be made T-shaped in cross-section, and the guide provided with the T-shaped groove, the rack being formed in the back of the groove, as shown in Fig. 4.
In regard to Fig. 4, it is a section of a modified form of slide and guide for either the upper or lower part of the window. The pawl and teeth would be arranged just as'in the other figures, except that the teeth would be formed at the rear of the slot and the pawl would be pivoted to the rear of the slide at its upper or lower end, according to the inclination of the teeth.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination, with the shade-roller F, of the racks A, having upwardly-projecting teeth, the carriers B, held on the racks A, the pawls O, pivoted to the lower ends of the carriers B, the rack A, having downwardly-projecting teeth, the carrier B on the rack A, the pawl O, pivoted to the upper end of the slide B, and the roller G on the carrier B, sub stantially as herein shown and described.
JULIUS WVAGNER.
