Other objects of the invention are to provide a curtain and shade support of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight, inconspicuous and which may be manufactured and installed at low cost.

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure l is a front elevational view, showing a curtain and shade support constructed in accordance with the present invention installed on a window frame;

Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof with the lower portion of the device broken away in vertical section substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the units with the adjacent end portion of the curtain rod separated therefrom;

Figure 4 is a perspective view of the upper portion of the unit shown in Figure 3 with the curtain rod attached thereto; 7

Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a pair of shade roller brackets which are designated generally by reference character 10. The brackets 10 are of suitable metal and adapted to be firmly secured on the upper corner portions of a conventional window frame 11. Toward this end, the brackets 10 comprise plates 12 having formed integrally therewith apertured ears or flanges 13 which receive securing screws as indicated at 14. One of the brackets 10 is provided with a vertical slot 15 for receiving one end of a conventional shade roller 16 and the other of said brackets tates Patent 10 has formed therein an opening 17 for receiving the other end of said shade roller.-

Affixed to the plates 12 of the brackets 10 and depending therefrom is a pair of metallic guides 18 of generally C-shaped horizontal section. The guides 18 terminate at an intermediate point on the sides 19' of the window frame 11 and have affixed to their lower end portions attaching plates or brackets 19. The plates 19 comprise integral ears or flanges 20 which are apertured, as indicated at 21, for the reception of screws for securing said plates to the sides 19 of the window frame.

*Formed integrally with the lower portions of the plates in the web portions thereof substantially square openings 27. The brackets 26 are telescopically engageable in the usual right angularly bent end portions 28 of a curtain rod 29, said curtain rod also being of substantially C-shaped cross-section. Latches 30 releasably secure the curtain rod 29 on the brackets 26. The latches 39 comprise resilient metallic bars 31 having one end portion secured at 32 to the end portions 28 of the curtain rod 29. The other or free end portions of the resilient bars 31 are reversely bent to provide operating handles 33. Struck inwardly from intermediate portions of the bars 31 are tongues or fingers 34. The tongues or fingers 34 project through openings 35 (see Figure 5) provided therefor in the end portions 28 of the curtain rod 29 for engagement in the openings 27 for positively securing said curtain rod on the brackets 26.

Operating rods 36 are loosely connected to the lower end portions of the slides 24. The rods 36 terminate in right angularly bent upper end portions 37 which are engaged in openings 38 provided therefor in the lower end portions of the slides 24 for operatively connecting said rods to said slides. The grooves or channels defined by the ribs 25 on the slides 24 accommodate the upper portions of the rods 36. The guides 18 prevent withdrawal of the end portions 37 of the rods 36 from the openings 38. The lower portions of the rods 36 are reversely bent to provide loops 39 which are engageable in the slots 23 and which terminate in forwardly projecting operating handles 40 adapted to rest on the keepers It is thought that the operation of the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the shade roller 16 is mounted on the stationary brackets 10 in the usual manner. With the slides 24 in lower position in the guides 18, the end portions 28 of the curtain rod 29 are slipped on the brackets 26 and secured through the medium of the latches 30. Of course, the curtains (not shown) are then mounted in the usual manner on the rod 29. Through the medium of the rods 36, the slides 24 are then moved upwardly in the guides 18 for raising the rod 29 with the curtain thereon in an obvious manner. The handles 40 are brought to rest on the keepers 22 with the loops 29 engaged in the slots 23 for supporting the slides 24 in elevated position. To lower the curtains the foregoing procedure is substantially reversed, the rods 36 being raised sufiiciently to disengage the loops 39 from the slots 23 for permitting said rods to be swung in a vertical plane for clearing or avoid ing the keepers 22.
