Description

March 7, 1961 e. M. BONALDI FORM TO BE USED WITH GARMENT HANGER Filed July 15, 1958 FORM TO BE USED wnrn GARMENT HANGER Giacomo M. Bonaldi, 3655 Noriega St., San Francisco, Calif.
Filed July 15, 1958, Ser. No. 748,630
2 Claims. (Cl. 223-88) This invention relates to improvements in a garment hanger form. The object is to provide a simple and inexpensive form which may be manufactured at a small cost, and will hold a collar of a garment in its natural shape during delivery or storage.
A further object is to provide a paper board form of the above mentioned type having provisions for mounting the same on a garment hanger in such a manner that the form is effectively centered and supported on the hanger so as to prevent inadvertent displacement therefrom in use. Another object of this invention, and most important is the exposed forward surface of the form presents a relatively large area for the reception of advertisement purposes.
The invention is illustrated in its preferred embodiment in the accompanying drawings, in which- Fig. 1 is a plan View of the form in flat condition.
Fig. 2 is a front View of the device after collar forming section has been curved and secured in place with a rounded head crimp fastener.
Fig. 3 is a strip of a transparent unbreakable plastic material in fiat condition.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 designates a sheet of material of the contour shown in Fig. l. The collar portion '2, in Fig. 1 may be slit to form an integral tab 4. The tab is provided with an opening or punch-out 5 which is adapted to receive the hook 14 of a garment hanger 8. The tab slips over the hook and is seated on the shank 15 of the hanger. Figure 2 shows the tab 4 bent forwardly and accommodated on the shank of the hanger 8. The tab 4 may be passed through a slot in a collar reinforcing strip, to be presently described, to hold the strip securely in place.
Provision is made under each side of the collar portion 2 in Fig. 1 with slots 7 extending obliquely upward and adapted to be mounted on the upper part of a garment hanger '8, thereby holding the whole form firmly in place.
To convert the blank into the form shown in Fig. 2, the wings 2A, shown in Fig. l, are provided in the upper corners with eyelets adapted to serve as an inlet for the insertion, preferably, of a rounded head crimp fastener 10, to interlock said wings permanently.
The rounded head fastener is so disposed that when the wings 2A are curved and pressed they are caused to bow forwardly, and produce a conical hollow garment receiving portion indicated in Fig. 2.
Fig. 3 represents a strip, cut preferably from an unbreakable transparent plastic material, somewhat stiffer but flexible, and capable of serving a highly useful purpose in preventing cardboard breaking.
The plastic strip 11, being equipped with eyelets 12 in Patented Mar. 7, 1961 the upper corners like wings 2A in Fig. 1, a transverse slot 13 is formed centrally therein in the lower portion of strip 11, in order that tab 4 may be inserted therethrough.
The eyelets in the plastic strip 11 and the eyelets in the collar portion 2 in Fig. l are adapted to be interlocked together with said rounded head fastener 10.
The positioning of a plastic strip 11, under the collar portion 2, forms a support so that it will not become flat or creased when in use; thus considerable body is given to the device at the collar portion 2, the curvature being suitable to conform to the collar portion of a coat.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a blank of flexible material including a main body portion, a collar portion including a pair of wing portions integral with said main body portion, a tab disposed substantially intermediate the wing portions, said tab being punched out to receive the shank of the hook of a garment hanger on which the device is mounted, the bottom of said collar portion being slotted to receive the upper edge of a garment hanger on which the device is mounted, means for securing together the upper ends of the wing portions to form a conical hollow collar portion adapted to receive the collar of a garment, and a reinforcing member comprising an elongated strip having a length substantially equal to the length of the wing portions, said strip being slotted substantially intermediate the ends to receive the tab, and means for holding said reinforcing member securely on the collar portion of the device to reinforce the same.
2. A device of the character described for mounting on a wire garment hanger of the type which includes a bar and an upper member comprising a blank of flexible material including a main body portion adapted to extend downwardly in front of the bar, a collar portion including a pair of wing portions, a tab formed substantially intermediate the wing portions, said tab being punched out to receive the shank of the hook of a garment hanger on which the device is mounted, the bottom of said collar portion being slotted obliquely to receive the upper member of the hanger to securely hold the device on the hanger, means for securing together the upper ends of the wing portions to form a conical hollow collar portion adapted to receive the collar of a garment with which it is associated, a reinforcing member comprising an elongated strip having a length substantially equal to the length of the wing portions, said strip being slotted intermediate the ends of said reinforcing member to receive the tab, and means for holding said reinforcing member securely on the collar portion of the device to reinforce the same.
