United States Patent O FOUNDATION FORM CLIP Arthur J. Brow, Jr., k542 W. 3rd St., and Gscar L. Franks, both of Mesa, Ariz.; said Franks assigner to said Brow Filed June 22, 1959, Ser. No. 822,121
1 Claim. (Cl. 25-131) This invention pertains to foundation form clips for locating and securing concrete forms used in pouring foundations and the like.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide a foundation clip which is simple in construction and sturdy and accurate in positioning foundation forms for pouring the stem on foundation footings.
Another object of this invention is to provide a foundation form clip adapted to be nailed to the footings for positioning and holding the stem forms for pouring a foundation and which clips may be used with equal facility to secure the top edges of said form during the pouring operations. t
Still another object is to provide a foundation clip forv positioning and holding the bottom and top portions of stem forms for foundation requiring a minimum of bracing and spacing members between the forms.
Further features and advantages of this invention will appear from a detailed description of the drawings in which: Y
Fig. l is an enlarged perspective view showing the use of a foundation form clip incorporating the features of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the form clip shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the form clip shown in Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is an end elevation of the clip shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
As an example of one embodiment of this invention there is shown a foundation form clip having the main base portion and the upturned ends 11 and 12. In the base portion 10 intermediate the inside faces 13 and 14 of the respective ends 11 and 12 are triangular perforations 15 and 16 formed by punching out the wings 17 and 18 along the edges 19 and folding the wings upwardly on the line 20 to a substantially vertical position in the direction of extent of the ends 11 and 12. Preferably the angle 21 should be somewhat less than 90 degrees, about 80 In use the clip is placed with its main base portion 10 down on the top surface 22 of a foundation footing 23 with the ends 11 and 12 and wings 17 and 18 projecting upwardly. Hardened steel concrete nails V24 are then located in the apexes 25 of the perforations 15 and 16 and into the concrete footing 23 securely locking the clip permanently to the footing. The stem forms comprising the plywood panels 26 and 2" x 4" support frames 27 xed to the panels are then placed on the footing 23 and positioned by the clips as best shown in Figs. 1 and 3. The sloping surface 28 of the wings 17 and 18 guide the forms rmly against the inside faces 13 and 14 of the ends of the clip so as to locate and hold the forms securely while they rest on the top surface 29 of the main base portion. The same clip may be turned upside down and placed over the top edges of the forms 26-27 as shown in Fig. l so as to similarly secure the upper portions of the forms in alignment With the bottom edges thereof. Concrete is then poured between the panels 26 in the usual manner to complete the foundation stem.
While the apparatus herein disclosed and described constitutes a preferred form of the invention, it is also to be understood that the apparatus is capable of mechanical alteration without departing from the spirit of the invention and that such mechanical arrangement and commercial adaptation as fall within the scope of the appendent claim are intended to be included herein.
Having thus fully set forth and described this invention what is claimed and desired to be obtained by United States Letters Patent is:
A concrete form assembly comprising, a concrete footing; a foundation clip mounted on a top surface of said footing; said clip having an elongated flat rectangular shaped base portion and upturned vertically disposed end members integral with the base portion at each end on a line transverse to the length of said base portion; a pair of spaced upwardly sloping triangular shaped wing members struck out of said base portion and forming triangular shaped perforations therein; the perforations being located between the Wing members and having an apex on the longitudinal axis of said base portion; the wing members having an edge one third the width of the base portion and integral therewith which is bent on a line transverse to the length of said base portion; each wing member positioned adjacent each end member and spaced therefrom to provide a stem form receiving section therebetween; said wing members sloping upwardly and away from their corresponding end members and inclined at an angle slightly more than 10 degrees with the vertical; said wing members being approximately one half the lengthV of said end members; a nail` member positioned in each perforation at the apex thereof and driven into the footing to hold the foundation clips in position on said footing; a stem form the width of the stem form receiving section vertically mounted in each of the two stem form receiving sections in contact with the end member and the sloping wing member thereof.
