1 Claim. (Cl. 24-191) This invention relates generally to fastening devices, and has particular reference to an improved slide for straps on garments and for other purposes, and is particularly designed to facilitate the placing of the slide on a strap without the necessity of threading the strap through the slide.

The primary object of this invention is to provide a 'slide member for an adjustable strap which may be speedily and easily applied without threading .the strap through the slide.

Referring to the drawing, there is illustrated a buckle 10, which is particularly adapted to be attached to a continuous strap without the necessity of the strap being threaded through the device.

The buckle 10 comprises a frame 12 having an opening 14 in one marginal portion thereof, the purpose of which to be described hereinafter, and a projecting metal tab 16 on the opposite marginal portion for engagement with a cross bar 18. The cross bar 18 has atab'receiving aperture 20 at one end thereof, and is diametrically disposed across the frame 12 extending over the opening 14, dividing the space within the frame into a pair of substantially parallel openings 22 and 24 through which the strap member 25 passes. The fastener 10 is assembled onto the strap 25 by forming a loop in the strap and passing the loop over the end of the upwardly extending cross bar 18, passing the lower marginaledges of the strap member through the opening 14, thereafter drawing the strap member downwardly will position the cross bar across the opening 14, retaining the strap securely within the parallel openings 22 and 24. The buckle carrying the strap may then be attached to a garment 28 having a snap fastener socket 30 disposed thereon by engaging the stud 26 on the cross bar with the socket.

Since the tab-receiving aperture 20 of the cross bar 18 has a greater width than the projecting metal tab 16, the frame can shift longitudinally in the direction of .tension applied to the strap thereby locking it firmly in position between the cross bar and the frame.

From the above it will be apparent that the invention provides a buckle of simple construction which may be economically manufactured and which may be readily assembled with straps, belts and the like of such bulky and thick material without the necessity of threading the strap through the slide.

Since certain other obvious modifications may be made in the device without departing from the scope of the invention, it is intended that all matter contained herein be interpreted in an illustrative and not in a limiting sense.

I claim:

A slide buckle structure comprising a generally rectangular frame member having upper, lower and side frame portions, one of the side portions being provided with a slot therein to permit the passage of a belt, the opposite side portion being provided with a hinge on which is pivotally mounted a cross bar, the said cross bar being of a width so that the lateral margin thereof overlies and closes the slot and is substantially coextensive with the slotted side of the frame, the dimensioning of the hinge pin section on the bar and the hinge being such as to permit limited longitudinal sliding movement of the said bar to aid in the clamping action thereof.
