CHARLES DIENER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
TOY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296341, dated April 15, 1884.
Application filed February 23, 1884. (No model.)
i'a ai& whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES DIENER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Toy, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to a toy to be used with firecrackers; and it consists, principally, of an inclosure made, preferably, in the form of a miniature house, in which the fire-crackers are to be exploded, the inclosure being provided with images arranged to be displayed by the force of the explosion.
The invention also consists in forming the inclosure-with a chimney in which is placed an image'arranged to be forced to the top of the chimney and displayed by the force of the explosion, and also of the Construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the aceompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a sectional elevation of my new and improved toy, showing in full lines the parts in the position they oecupy just before the explosion, and in dotted lines the position they oceupy after the explosion; and Figfi2 is a sectional plan view, taken on the line :0 x of Fig. 1.
A represents the inclosure, which may be made of wood or sheet metal, and which is by preference made in the form of a miniature house, with the chimney B, hinged door C,
- and hinged window-shutters D D. The door C is provided upon the inside with the soeket a, in which the fire-cracker E is held for explosioawithin the inclosure. The windowshutters D are by preference hinged at their i lower edges, as shown, and are each provided upon the inside with an image, b,- and to prevent the 'shutters from being forced too far downward by the explosion I provide the inclosure upon the outside with the stop-cleats d d, which are arranged to stop the shutters D at the horizontal position, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. l.
Within the ehimney B is placed the image 5 f, which is free to move in the ehimney froni the ledge c at the bottom to the flange e at the top of the chimney; and for holding the image f, displayed at the top of the chinney, I provide the same with the small wire spring g, (shown in Fig. 1,) the end g' of the spring reaehing through a suitable orifice to the outside of the ehimney, so that the spring mayeasily be withdrawn from under the image to permit it to drop back into the chimney after -the explosion.
playing the images Z), and the imagefin the ehimney B will be forced upward to the top of the ehimney. where it will be held in displayed position by the springs g, thus making the toy to appear to show that all those individuals come out to see what causes the distu'banee. By drawing outward upon the end g' of the spring g, andclosing the shutters D, the parts of the toy will be in position again ready for another explosion.
Instead of attaching the images b to the shutters D they may be Suspended in the windows, or attached in such manner as to be displayed in upright position in or leaning out from the windows, in which ease the cleats d would be dispensed with, and the shutters would be hinged at their side edges to swing open horizontally, and instead of making the inelosure A in the form of a house, it might be made in any other shape or form, and not depart from the spirit of my invention.
'Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A fire-cracker toy made substantially as herein shown and described, and consisting of an inelosure in which the fire-eracker is to be exploded, the inclosure being provided with images arranged to be deployed by the force of the explosion, substantially as set forth.
2. The inclosure A, formed with the chimney B, having an image, f, placed thei-ein, and provided with the spring g, for holding the image at the top of the chinney, substantially as described.
3. The door C of the inelosure A, formed or provided with the socket a, for holding a fire-eracker, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
XVitnesses: CHARLES DIENER.
