(Cl. 248-146) This invention relates to articles used around habitable quarters for the convenience of the personnel in the maintenance of desirable conditions, and particularly to utensils used by the housewife in connection with the feeding of the family.

The invention relates particularly to a holder for a garbage can or container for maintaining the same in a convenient location with the cover intact but permitting readily removal of the same to allow the deposit of matter into the can.

Garbage cans have been placed at convenient locations and the cover held thereon by gravity or by the fit of the same onto the can or receptacle with which it is associated and such cans have attracted dogs, rats and other animals and the cans have been overturned and the contents scattered. Devices have been produced to hold garbage cans in place, however these have been expensive, cumbersome or have been more complicated than they were worth.

It is an object of the invention to provide a relatively simple holder for a garbage can or other container, and a cover therefor so that they cannot be separated by an animal, but in which the lid may be easily and readily removed for the deposit of material into the can.

Another object of the invention is to provide a holder for a garbage can of simple and inexpensive construction with a minimum number of parts and with means for anchoring the holder so that it with its lid cannot easily be dislodged or overturned by an animal, and with such device provided with means by which the unit may be locked on location against unauthorized removal Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, wherein:

Briefly stated, the invention comprises a support for the bottom of a garbage can, which support is generally T- shaped, being composed of a pair of bars, one slightly shorter and connected at right angles to the central portion of the other with the three remote ends of the bars disposed downwardly at right angles to provide a threepoint support either in the form of piercing points, or rollers, or the like. On the T-shaped base or frame member a few inches above the same is a can or receptacle retaining ring supported by posts and a gooseneck or flexible coupling is provided with extremities fixed one 2,968,459 Patented 17, 961

to the base and the other to the lid of the container, the flexible coupling or gooseneck permitting the lid to 'be raised for the deposit of material in the can and replaced, the gooseneck offering suflicient resistance .to render removal of the lid by an animal difllcult, if not almost impossible.

With continued reference to the drawing, the invention is a holder for a garbage can 10, and a lid 11, of conventional construction, the holder comprising a ring or annulus 12, of a size to snugly receive the lower end portion of the can. The ring is carried by uprights 13, maintained on

14 and 15, with the latter disposed substantially at right angles to the former to provide a generally T-shaped supporting base for the bottom of the garbage can.

14 and 15, are dis posed downwardly and may be sharpened at their extremities to provide piercing points 16, such downwardly extending portions having collars or disks 17, fixed thereto for limiting the penetration of such supporting portions. With the construction described the can is both supported on the base, including the

14 and 15, and is confined within the ring 12, while the downwardly disposed supporting portions are anchored in a supporting medium such as the earth.

In order to perform the dual function of retaining the lid 11, of the can from being lost and at the same time to retain the can in the holder with the cover thereon, a gooseneck or flexible connector or flexible conduit 18, is provided having one end attached to a support such as the support 15, by means of a tubular post 19, adapted to receive the extension 20, ofthe gooseneck or flexible connector 18. The extension 20 is provided with spaced openings 21 for registration with opening 19 and the receipt of a cotter pin 22. This permits adjustability of the connector with regard to the post.

In like manner the opposite end of the flexible connector 18, is provided with an extension 23, which fits into a sleeve 24, and is held therein by means of a cotter pin 25. The opposite end of the sleeve 24, has attached thereto a pair of

clamping members

26 and 27. Clamp ing member 26 is welded or permanently secured to the sleeve 24, and the clamping member 27 is connected to the clamping member 26 by bolts 28, so that the handle 29 of the garbage can may be confined between the sections of the clamp.

If it is desired the

14 and 15 may be of tubing and have their downwardly turned portions 15' provided with internal threads 30 for the reception of threaded extremities 31 of pointed extensions 32, or similar studs 33, or rollers 34, so that either piercing points or rollers may be employed as desired to support the base.

If desired a brace 35 may be disposed between the ring 12 and the post 19, and if desired an anchoring cable may have one end fixed to brace 35 and its other end provided with a ring 36 by which it may be secured by a lock 37, with an eye 38 permanently fixed to the support on which the garbage can is allowed to rest.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope thereof and therefore the invention is not limited by that which is illustrated in the drawing and described in the specification, but only as indicated in the accompanying claims.v

What is claimed is:

1. A garbage can and lid holder comprising a stand for receivably supporting a garbage can, said stand including horizontally disposed members on which said can is adapted to rest and a horizontal ring supported from and above said members in fixed relation thereto, downwardly extending supports connected to said members in spaced relation about the outer portion of the stand, a lid for 3, said can, an elongated lid retaining attachment having one end attached to said stand and the other end attached to said lid and with a flexible conduit portion along its length bendable to permit application and removal of the lid and of a character to retain said lid. in a definite position regardless of whether raised to permit access to said can or in a position forming a closure for said can.
