W. C. LUCAS.
KEY-RING.
No 296,763. Patented Apr. 15, 1884.
jzz niar Wn/esses V UNITED STATES ATENT I WILLIAIVI C. LUCAS, OF MERIDEN, CONNEGTIOIII.
KEY-RING.
SPECIFICATION i'orming part of Letters Patent No. 296,763, dated April 15, 1884.
Application filed January 2, 1884. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM 0. Lucas, a citizen of the United States, residing at Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Rings, of which the followin g is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to spring-rings, or rings for holding keys and similar articles together; and it consists in a certain improvement in the construction of such rings, as herein shown, described, and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure lrepresents a side view of a ring having my improvement. Fig. 2 is a side view, showing the main part of the ring, the sleeve or attachment being removed. Fig. 3 shows the sleeve inside and end view. Fig. 4 shows a section of the ring, taken on line as w of Fig. 1.
In the drawings, A. designates the main part of the ring, the ends of the piece forming it being far enough apart to leave an opening, a, large enough to allow the passage of a key on the ring. A slight incision or hole, 0, is made in the ring, which is intended to receive a slight projection on the inner side of a sleeve, B. The said sleeve conforms to the ring, and,
when adjusted, covers the opening a and extends somewhat over the ends of the part A. It is provided on its inner side with a slight projection, e, the same being in proper place toenter: the incision a when the ring is closed by moving the sleeve B, so that it incloses both ends of the part A. As the sleeve is moved along, the projection e, reaching the incision 0, immediately enters it, being sprung into it, the sleeve not fitting the ring so closely as to prevent the movement. When it is desired to open the ring, a slight pressure by hand, moving the part A slightl5 from the side of sleeve B, which has the projection e, unlocks the ring, which is then opened by pushing the sleeve along on the ring.
I claim- A ring provided with an opening, a, and an incision, c, and a sleeve, B, conforming to the ring and having an inner projection, e, whereby the sleeve is held in place, all constructed substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM G. LUCAS.
