UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT H. JAREGKI, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
PIPE-VISE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,333, dated April 8, 1884.
Application filed April 12, 1883.
To aZZ wit-01m it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT H. J ARECKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Vises; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to the construction of pipe-vises; and it consists in the construction and cbmbination of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed.
The device is illustrated in the accompanying drawing by asingle perspective view, with a change in the position of parts, shown by dotted lines, (the screw in dotted lines being broken offi) The frame-work of the device consists of a base, A, the standard B, on which the movable jaw is pivoted, the movable jaw-rest B, and the fixed jaw-faces G G, on which the fixed dies F F are secured.
The movable jaw consists of the pivoted part 0 and the die E.
The clamping devices consist of the pivoted screw D, the loose trunnion-formed block (2, and the armed nut D. The standard B, on
which the movable jaw is pivotedfls continued into the horn B, which forms a rest for the movable jaw when it is thrown back. It is slotted to receive the jaw G, and is provided with a series of holes, I) b b, in which the jaw (No model.)
C can be adjusted at various heights by changing its pivot-pin c from one to the other. The screw is pivoted to the base at d, is provided with a movable block, (1, and an armed nut, D. The screw, when raised up, enters a claw on the end of the movable jaw, and the block (1, which has trunnion-shaped extensions, sets into a curved seat, e, on the sides of the claw, and by turning down the nut D the pipe will be pressed between the jaws. By unscrewing the nut just enough to allow the block d to be u-nshipped from the curved seat in which it sets the screw can be thrown down and the upper jaw thrown back, as shown in dotted lines, and then the pipe can be lifted out freely from the vise. By changing the pin 0 in the holes I) the capacity of the vise can be varied as desired. This device is very convenient, as the pipe can be put in and taken out of it without moving A. H. JAREOKI.
