Description
UNITED. STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SILAS w. BALL, on CANTON, oruo.
PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,108, dated April 1, 1884:.
Application filed January 30, 1884. (No model.)
ToctZZ whom it may concern Be it known that I, SILAs W; BALL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is atop view. Fig. 2 is a detached view of point. Fig. 3 is an under side or bottom view. Fig. 4: is an inside view of standard, showing the mold-board and share removed.
The present invention has relation to the construction and attachment of an interchan geable point, and of the several parts and combination of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts of the drawings.
In. the accompanying drawings, A represents the interchangeable point, which is of the form shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, and should be made of castca'st-steel. The headsa are wedge-shaped, as shown. Grooves b are formed in the sides of the heads a, and are for the purpose of receiving the edge ofthe share B, thereby assisting in holding the interchangeable point A in proper position and at the same time'preventing weeds and dirt from collecting between said parts. Shoulders cl and d are formed, as shown in Fig. 2, upon the in ner ends of the heads a, the shoulder d fitting against the share B, as indicated at Z, Fig. 2, the shoulder d fitting against the front or forward end of the standard 0, as shown in Fig. 3. The center of the point A is provided with the slot 6, and is for the passage of the clamping-bolt. v
The share B is of the form shown in Fig. 1, and may be attached to the standard 0 by means of suitable clamping-bolts in the ordinary manner, the front or forward end being cut away so as to fit the heads a, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
The standard 0 is formed so that the land- The lower portion of said standard is provided withthe notch or recess E, and is for the pur-,
pose of assisting in holding the interchangeable point A in proper position. Said standard is also provided with the slot F, and is for the purpose of passing the clamping-bolt f through said standard. A slot is used, so that any variances in adjusting the landside will not interfere with the clamping-bolt f. The opening in the landside forthe bolt f should correspond in size and form to said bolt.
In use the interchangeable point A is placed in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and rigidly held in that position by the clampingbolt f, the groove 12, and the notch or recess E.- When from use the point is worn beveling, the clamping-bolt f is removed, and the interchangeable point turned upside down, and again attached, as before, and so on until one of the heads a is entirely worn out, when the point A is changed end for end and again used, as above described. The grooves b and the shoulders cl d being so formed, the point A will fit any and all of the above-described positions.
It will be seen that by my peculiar arrangement I am enabled to form a' point for plows which will be easily adjusted and at the same time well adapted for the purpose for which it is intended.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The interchangeable point A, provided with the heads a, the grooves b, the shoulders at d, and the slot 6, in combination with the standard G, provided with the notch or recess E, and the slot F, and the share B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in presence of two witnesses.
. SILAS W. BALL. WVitnesses:
