The principal object of this invention is to provide a simple clothes hanger which may be housed within a closet or projected therefrom so that clothes may be hung thereon and moved into and out of the closet as needed.

A further object is to produce a hanger which is neat in appearance, one which is easy to operate and one which will place the garment into position easy to reach.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specication and in which like numbers are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

Fig. 1 is a side elevation of my hanger;

Fig. 2 is atop plan View thereof;

Fig. 3 is a perspective View showing the position the same would occupy in a closet; and

Fig. 4 is a front elevation of my device.

It is customary in the ordinary closet storage `of garments to place them upon hangers which in turn rest upon a pole extending from end to end of the closet. In order to select a garment, it is necessary to reach into the closet and withdraw a garment from the rod. This is particularly diicult to do where sliding doors are used for the reason that only one half the closet pole is exposed at a time.

With my device, this is not true.

In the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a base plate adapted to be attached to the oor of a closet, which base plate has upturned ears 6 located closest to the front of the plate, and ears 7 located adjacent the rear of the plate.

Pivoted at 6 between the ears 6 is a T-shaped fitting 8 which has a support 9 secured thereto, which support in turn carries a T-shaped fitting 11 at its upper end. This fitting 11 pivotally carries at 11 the ears 12 of a yoke 12 in which is Secured a rod 13, which rod serves as a garment hanger. The rear end of the yoke 12 has a stop 14. A cable 16 includes ends 16 and 16 and extends from the ear 7 to an opening 14' in the stop 14.

It will be here noted that the pivotal points of the cable and the fitting 8 and the yoke 12 form `a parallelogram.

A stop 17 is formed upon the base plate 5.

The result of this construction is that when the parts 2,960,236 Patented Nov. l5, 1960 are in the full-line position of Fig. 1, the back of the yoke will contact a rubber bumper 18 attached to the wall A, and when the parts are in the dotted line position, the stops 17 and 14 will both engage the support 9, thus limiting the forward movement thereof.

It will thus be seen that when the parts are in the fullline position of Fig. 1, the uppermost pivot points will be back of the dead center line B, and that consequently the device as a whole will remain in the closet until pulled forwardly over dead center, when the parts move into the dotted line position.

It will thus -be seen that my device will accomplish all of the objects above set forth. It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. A garment hanger comprising a base plate to be secured on a horizontal support surface, a connecting member pivotally connected to said base plate for rotation about a horizontal axis of rotation, an elongated support extending vertically from said connecting member, a second connecting member pivotally connected to the upper end of said support on a horizontal axis of rotation, an elongated element `having the same length as the elongated support pivotally connected at its lower end to the base plate and pivotally connected at its upper end to the second connecting member in spaced relation from said axes of rotation and parallel to said elongated support for forming with said support and connecting member a parallelograrn relationship, an article support rod projecting from said second member for supporting clothes and the like thereon, :and stop means engageable with said support for limiting forward parallelogrammovement of said hanger whereby the support, and the elongated element second connecting member will project forwardly of a vertical line passing through said base plate.

2. The structure of claim 1 in which said connecting members include portions limiting rotary motion of said support and elongated element relative to said base plate.

3. The structure of claim 1 in which said connecting members comprise T-shaped members, each having a leg portion connected to said elongated support, said stop means comprising a vertical portion on said base plate in the line of pivotal movement of said support.
