My invention relates to shower curtains for bathtubs. Various arrangements have heretofore been proposed for use with bathtubs to prevent the discharge of water on, the fioor at the front side of the bathtub, but none of these has proven wholly satisfactory.

In accordance with the present invention a shower curtain is provided which may be employed withv bathtubs now in use as well as on new installations, and which will, effectivel prevent the undesired discharge of water on the floor outside the bathtub.

In accordance with the present invention, also, a shower curtain is provided which will be attractive in appearance when installed and which will be free from likelihood of damage by water.

In accordance with the present invention, also, a shower curtain is provided for use with bathtubs which may be readily raised and lowered as desired by the user and, which when in elevated position, will not interfere with the normal use of the bathtub.

In accordance with the present invention, also, a shower curtain assembly is provided which is simple in its construction and may be readily installed for immediate use.

Other objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the specification and claim.

The nature and characteristic features of the invention will be more readily understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, in which:

Figure 1 is a horizontal sectional view through a bathtub compartment having a shower curtain in accordance with the present invention, part being broken away to show the details of construction;

Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the compartment shown in Fig. 1;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken approximately on the line 33 of Fig. 1;

Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken approximately on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2;

Fig. 5 is a view in perspective of one form of bracket employed in connection with the present invention; and

Fig. 6 is a view in perspective of another form of bracket employed in connection with the present invention.

merely, and that various modifications and changes ma be made in the structure disclosed without. departin from the spirit of the invention.

Referring now more particularly to the draw? ings a compartment is illustrated which includes a vertical rear wall l0 and spaced parallel vertical end walls H: within which a bathtub I2 is in.- gstalled.

The bathtub I2 has an exposed front wall or face I 3. and an inner front wall I4. One of the end walls H: is provided with a shower spray head [5.

. Each of the end walls H preferably has mountaed thereon, and at approximately the same elevation as the shower head l5, one of a pair of brackets l6 and I! shown in detail in Figs. 5 and 6. The brackets l6 and I! are preferably held in position on the end walls I I by suitable screws l8 which extend through openings [9 in the brackets l6 and I1 and into the end walls ll. Each of the brackets l6 and I1 preferably has a circular opening 20 therein. The bracket I6 is provided with a central hole 2|, of rectangular shape, and the other bracket I1 is provided with a central hole 22, round in shape, for the reception of a spring and ratchet controlled curtain rod 25 as hereinafter more fully explained.

Each of the brackets I6 and I! at the lower portion thereof is provided with a flaring slot 26 connecting with the circular opening 20. A roller cover case 21 is provided, preferably formed of moistureproof sheet material such as synthetic plastic. The case 21 is of substantially circular shape in vertical cross section to fit within the openings 20 in the brackets I6 and I! with lower leg portions 28 which extend down through the slots 26. The cover 21 is thus held in clamped position by the brackets l6 and H7. The cover 21 is preferably provided, along the upper portion thereof, with a plurality of vent openings 29 for permitting the escape of moisture carried into the cover 21.

The curtain rod 25 and its parts may be of any desired material, but are preferably made of materials which are moistureproof or moisture resistant to prevent rusting or corrosion thereof, and for this purpose synthetic plastic may be employed. The curtain rod 25 has a curtain 30 of moistureproof material secured thereto and rolled thereupon and the lower or free end of the curtain 30 has a rod 3| secured thereto for actuation of the curtain 30. The rod BI is preferably of a size so as to be stopped by the leg portions 28 of the cover 21.
