-. stood that the dogging and latch hold-back mechanism 4il- Referring now to Fig. l Of'the drawing, the lock embodying the instant invention includes an elongated hous- The primary object of this invention, therefore, yis to' l tra]` vertical section, further illustrating Athe dogging meching 5 which carries the entire lock mechanism and is se' cured in a notch 6 in the edge of a door 7 by inner andk outer escutcheon plates 8 and 9. The housing 5 hasa front wall 10 and elongated side walls 11-11 which extend rearwardly therefrom. A tubular knob shank bearing sleeve 12 extends through said side walls adjacent the rear end of the housing and projects beyondthe inner and outer sides thereof. The bearing sleeve 12 is secured.- to said housing kby retaining pins 13-13 which extendl thereinto from a tie-bar 14 that isattached to the rear ends of theside walls 11-'-11. The portion of the bear-v ingsleeve 12 between the side walls of the housing contains diametrically Opposed clearance openings 15--15 from the outer edges of which extend diametrically op, posed locking notches 1616.
The latch bolt 17 of the lock is pivotally mountedjfto the housing 5 `by a pin 18 and extends through an opening 19in ythe front wall 10. The latch bolt is actuated byf'a' conventionall retractor 20 which extends longitudinally of the housing and includes a -yoke portion 20'-aV whichhstrad dles the bearing sleeve 12 and has laterally extending. arms 20-b-'20b whose forward faces provideV rollback platforms 20-c-20-c. from the yoke portion of the retractor through an open-r ing in a supporting plate-S-a, that extends across the housg ing, and is connected at its forward end to the latch bolt by a pin 21. The latch bolt and the retractor are biasedl into normal projected position, as illustrated in Fig. 1,*by a compression spring 22 which vis disposed between the l supporting plate S-,a and the pin 21 that extends through the latch bolt. A bar 20-d extends forwardly the groove 27 in the bearing sleeve. Each key is retained the groove 27 surrounding the bearing sleeve and covers the slot 28. vThe keys 30 prevent the knob Shanks from being pulled out of the bearing sleeve andyet allow free rotation thereof.
The inner knob shank 23 carries an inner rollback 34 which, as best shown in Fig. 4, includes a hub portion 3S, that is contained within the bore of the knob shank, and oppositely projecting arms 36--36 that extend through slots 37-37 in the inner end of said knob shank whereby said rollback is prevented from rotating relatively thereto. Said arms extend through the openings 15-15 in the bearing sleeve and overlie the rollback platforms 20-c-20-c on the retractor. The slots 37-37 are of a depth substantially equal to the thickness of the inner rollback 34 and terminate inwardly of the inner edges of the openings 15--15 so that; said rollback is prevented from moving toward or rubbing against said edges. The hub portion 35 of the inner rollback contains a concentric recess 38 on its inner face for a purpose to be hereinafter described.
The inner end of the outer Vknob shank 24 is spaced from the inner end of the inner knob shank 23 andcontainsdiametrically opposed s lots 39-39 which extend into the s hank to a point adjacent the en ds of the locking notches 16-16. The outer knob shank car-ries an outer rollback 40 which is similar in shape to the inner rollback and includes a hub portion 41, that tits within the bore of the outer knob shank, and oppositely projecting arms 42-42 which extend through the slots 39-39 and the openings 15-1 5 in the bearing sleeve and overlie the rollback platforms `Ztl-c --ZO-c on the retractor 20. The outer rollback 40 is axially slidable in the outer knob shank, but cannot rotate relatively thereto. It
will be understood that sincethe spring 22 urges the rer1-actor against the opposite ends of the rollbacks, they will normally be retained in centrally located position with respect to the bearing sleeve thereby normallypositioning the slots 39-39in the outer knob shank in alignment with the locking notches 16--16.
The outer knob shank carries a mechanism for moving the outer rollback axially into the locking notches 16-16, to thereby dog the outer knob shank against rotation, and for holding the outer rollback in a position wherein the retractor is retracted to thereby `hold the latch bolt in withdrawn position.
` Said mechanism includes a stationary tubular cam member 43 which is contained within the outer knob shank and issecured thereto by means of a pin 44 which extends through the shank andinto the cam member. Said cam membercontains an arcuate cam slot 45 in its periphery, and slidably and rotatably supports a spindle 46 which extends -therethrough axially of the outer knob4 shank. A follower pin 47 projects radially from the spindle 46 into the cam slot 45 and, upon `rotation of the spindle, engages the sides of the `cam slot to cause axial movement of the spindle in opposite directions `relatively to the knob shank. The ends 45a45a of said cam slot provide abutments engageable by the follower pin 47 to limit rotation of the spindle to 180.
The inner end portion of the spindle 46 extends through an axial hole 48 in the outer rollback andis of a reduced diameter providing a shoulder 49 thereon.` Said inner end portion of the spindle 46 carries ablocking member 50 comprisinga at preferably square plate 51 having relatively narrow, centrally located projections 52-52 extending from the upper and lower edges thereof. The

The plate portion 51 of the blocking member extends transversely of the bearing sleeve and ts between the sides of the openings 1515 therein as best illustrated in Fig. 5. In this manner, the blocking mem ber is slidably guided in the bearing sleeve, but is prevented from rotating relatively thereto. The blocking member is retained on the spindle by a retaining ring 54 which is received in an annular groove 55 adjacent the end of the spindle.
A compression spring 56 surrounds the inner end of the spindle and is disposed between the blocking member 50 and the bottom of an axial recess 57 in the inner face of the outer rollback, and said spring normally biases the blocking member against the retaining ring 54 andthe outer rollback against the shoulder 49 on the spindle.
The inner end of the spindle is provided with an axial hole 58 in which a plunger 59 is slidably mounted. Said plunger is urged against the bottom of the recess 38 in the inner rollback by a spring 60 that is contained within said hole and prevents the inner rollback 34 from becoming detached from the inner knob shank. i
The outer knob 2 6.of tl ie lock carries a conventional cylinder lock 61 which includes a rotatable key plug 6 1a thatprojects through an openingin the end wall of the knob. A tubular'driver 62 is pinned to the inner end of the key plug for rotation therewith and extends into the bore of the outer knob shank 24. The driver 62 contains an axial hole 63 which slidably receives the outer end of the spindle 46, and the inner end portion of the driver is cut away to provide an arcuate portion 62-a thereon, the opposite edges of which are adapted to engage a drive pin 64` extending radially from one sid e of the spindle 46. It will be understood from Fig. 8, that the driver 62 is permitted to rotate 180 relatively to the spindle so asto provide lost motion therebetween for a purposeto b e hereinafter described.
When the parts of thelo'ck are disposed in thepositions shown in Figs. l to `6 of the drawing, the latch` bolt of the lock'may be withdrawn byrotating either the inner knob 2 5 or the outer knob 2 6 in either direction. When the inner knob is rotated, the inner roll back 34 will rotate therewith and one of its va'rr'ns will urge Vthe retractor `rear wardly `to thereby withdraw the latch bolt. When the outer knob isV rotated, the outer rollback and all of the other` parts carried by the outerknob-shank will rotate therewith relatively to the-blocking member 50, and one of the arms of the outer rollback will urge the retractor rearwardly to withdraw the latch bolt.
When it is desired to dog the outer knob against rotation, the proper keyis insertedA -into the key plug 61`a and said key plug is rotated ina clockwise direction to cause rotation of the driver 62. It will be understood that the driver 62 willrotate independently of the spindle 46 for 180 vwhich willbring the edge 62-b thereof into engagement rwith the drive pin 64. Further rotation of the key will then cause rotation of the spindle 46 in a clockwise direction and relatively tothe cam member, the outer roll back and the blocking member. As the spindle rotates, the follower pin 47 ,will engages the inner faceof the cam slot 45 `and cause outward axialmovement of the spindle relatively tothe knob shank, the driver 62, and the cam member, As the spindle is thus moved, the outer rollback 40 will slide outwardly in the outer knob shank since it is held against the shoulder 49 on the spindle `by, the compression spring S6. and must move therewith. When the spindle has been rotated for the parts ofthe lock will then bein the positions shown in Fig. 9 wherein the arms 42.42 of the outer rollback are disposed between the of the locking notches 1616.`

To unlock the outer knob, it is only necessary to rotate the key one com-plete revolution in a counterclockwise direction. For the rst 180 of rotation, the driver 62 will rotate independently of the spindle 46 until the edge 62-c thereof engages the drive pin 64 projecting from the spindle. Further rotation of the key'will then rotate the spindle in a counterclockwise direction, whereupon the follower pin 47 will engage the outer face of the cam slot 45 and cause inward movement of the spindle. Since the outer rollback is held against the shoulder 49 on the spindle by the spring 56, it will be carried inwardly therewith to move therarms 42-42 out of the locking notches 16-16, and the blocking member 50 will also move inwardly with the spindle since it is retained against the retaining ring 5,4 by said spring 56. When the follower pin 47 abuts the end of the cam slot 45, the dogging mechanism will be in normal unlocked position and the key may then be withdrawnfrom the key plug.
When it is desired to position the latchbolt in withdrawn position to prevent engagement thereof with the conventional strike, not shown, the dogging mechanism above described must first be in normal unlocked position. The outer knob is then rotated in either direction as [far as possible, the extent of its rotation being limited by the engagement of the arms of the outer rollback with the diametrically opposite edges of the clearance openings 15-15. In Fig. 1l of the drawing, I have shown the outer rollback positioned at the limit of its rotation in a clockwise direction. In thisv position, the upper arm -42 of the outer rollback 'has urged the retractor rearwardlly to withdraw the latch bolt into the housing of the lock. 'The knob is manually held in fully rotated position and Athe key is inserted into the key plug and rotatedin a Lclockwise direction for one complete revolution. This `will cause outward axial movement ofthe spindle 46 relatively to the outer knob shank in the manner previously described, but in this instance, ther outer rollback is prevented from moving outwardly due to its 'engagement with the outer transverse edges of the openings 15-15; As the spindle moves outwardly relatively to the outer rollback, it carries the blocking member outwardly therewith against the force of the spring 56, which is, compressed between the outer rollback and the blocking member, as illustrated in Fig. l2, and thel fingers 53-53 rnove into the path of the armson the rollback-tothe position illustrated in Figs. l2 and 13'. When the outer knob is released, the outer rollback is prevented from returning to normal position under the iniluence of the spring 22 by the blocking fingers 53-53 on the non-rotatable blocking member, and the retractor'and the latch bolt are thereby held in fully retracted position. AIt will be noted that the recess 57 in the inner Yface of the outer rollback accommodates the coils of the spring 56 when it -is compressed as illustrated in Fig.Y 12.
The retractor and latch bolt may be released by merely rotating the key in a counterclockwiseV direction to return the blocking member to its'normal unlocked .posit-ion, whereupon the spring 22 will urge the retractorv and the latch bolt -into projected position and return the outer rollback to its normal position.
I claim;
l. In a door lock, the combination of a housing having dogging -abutments, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a tubular knob shank mounted to rotate in said housing and having a knob secured thereto, a rollback non-rotatably connected to said knob shank and slidable axially thereof, a rotatable and axially movable spindle contained within said knob shank, means connecting said rollback to said spindle for axial movement therewith, cam meansV carried by said knob shank in iixed poistion relatively thereto, a cam follower extending from said spindle for engagement with said cam means, said cam mean-s beingr arranged to cause outward and `inward axial movement of said spindle upon rotation thereof in opposite directions; whereby, when said spindle is rotated in one direction it moves -axially to carry said roll-back into engagement with said dogging abutments to dog the knob shank'againstr tation, and when rotated in the opposite direction it carries said rollback out of engagement with saiddogging abutments to release said knob shank, and key operated means in said knob 4for rotating said spindle in opposite directions.

In a door latch or lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, knob operated means rotatable in said housing, a rollback non-rotatably connected to said knob operated means and adapted, upon rotation thereof, to urge said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, a blocking member mounted in said housing inwardly of and adjacent said rollback, blocking means extending outwardly from said blocking member toward said rollback, guide surfaces on said housing slidably guiding said blocking member and preventing rotation thereof with said rollback, and means for moving said blockingmember axially in opposite directions relatively to said rollback, whereby, when said rollback is rotated to a position wherein the retractor is retracted said blocking member is movable toward said rollback to position the blocking means thereon in the path of said rollback to prevent its return rotation and thereby hold the latch bolt in withdrawn position.

In a door latch or lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a knob shank mounted to rotate in said housing, a rollback non-rotatably connected to said knob shank and having portions extending radially from opposite sides thereof, said rollback being rotatable in opposite directions from its normal position and adapted to urge said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, a blocking member adjacent said rollback, blocking ngers extending from said blocking member toward said rollback and normally aligned with the radially extending portions thereof, guide surfaces on said housing slidably guiding said blocking member for axial movement in opposite directions relatively to said rollback and preventing rotation thereof, and means for moving the blocking member axially in opposite directions, whereby, when said rollback is rotated in either direction to retract said retractor, said blocking member is movable to a position wherein said blocking fingers are disposed in the path of said radially extending portions of the rollback to prevent return rotation of the rollback and thereby hold the latch bolt in withdrawn position.

In a door latch or lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a tubular knob shank mounted to rotate in said housing, `a rollback non-rotatably connected to said knob shank and having a hub portion with arms extending radially from opposite sides thereof, said rollback being rotatable in opposite directions from its normal position to cause either of said arms to urge said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, a spindle extending longitudinally of said knob shank through an opening in said rollback, a blocking member connected to said spindle, guide surfaces preventing rotation of said blocking member relatively to said rollback, blocking iingers extending from said blocking member toward said rollback and normally aligned with the arms thereof, said blocking fingers being disposed exteriorly of the hub portion of said rollback, and means for moving said spindle axially in opposite directions, whereby, when said rollback is rotated in either direction to retract said retractor said blocking member is movable toward said rollback to position said blocking fingers in the path of said arms to prevent return rotation of said rollback `and thereby hold the latch bolt in withdraw position.

In a door latch or lock, ahousing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a tubular bearing sleeve extending transversely through said housing, the portion of said sleeve within said housing having diametrically opposed clearance openings therethrough, a tubular knob shank mounted to rotate in said bearing sleeve, a rollback non-rotatably connected to said knob shank and having a hub portion with arms extending radially from opposite sides thereof through said clearance openings, said rollback being normally positioned with said arms disposed intermediate the edges of said clearance openings and being rotatable in opposite directions to cause either of said arms to move said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, a spindle extending axially of said knob shank through an opening in said hub portion, a blocking member connected to said spindle and extending transversely of said bearing sleeve between the sides of the clearance openings therein whereby said blocking member is prevented from rotating relatively to said rollback and is movable in opposite directions relatively thereto, blocking ngers extending from the opposite edges of said blocking member toward said rollback and normally aligned with the arms thereof, said blocking iingers being disposed exteriorly of the periphery of the hub portion of the rollback, and means for moving said spindle axially in opposite directions, whereby, when said rollback is rotated in either direction to retract said retractor said blocking member is movable toward said rollback to position said blocking fingers in the path of said arms to prevent return rotation of said rollback and thereby Ihold the latch bolt in withdrawn position.

In a door lock, a housing having guide surfaces, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, operating means mounted to rotate in said housing and adapted upon rotation to urge said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, dogging means shiftable from a normal position wherein the operating means is operable to retract Vthe retractor to a dogging position wherein the operating means is dogged against rotation, and blocking means non-rotatably mounted in said housing through engagement with said guide surfaces and shiftable into blocking engagement with said operating means when the retractor is retracted to thereby prevent the return of the retractor to its normal position and hold the latch bolt `in withdrawn position, and a single key operated member for controlling both the dogging means and the blocking means.

In a door lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, operating means mounted to rotate in said `housing and adapted upon rotation to urge said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, dogging means adapted to dog the operating means against operation and shiftable from a normal position wherein the operating means is operable to retract the retractor to a dogging position wherein rotation of the operating means is prevented, actuating means for moving said dogging means into and out of dogging position, blocking means non-rotatably carried by said housing and shiftable in opposite directions by said actuating means simultaneously with said dogging means when said dogging means is shifted into and out of dogging position, and abutment means engageable by said dogging means to prevent movement thereof to dogging position when the operating means is in a position wherein the retractor is retracted, said blocking means, when said retractor is retracted, being movable by said actuating means independently of said dogging means into blocking engagement with said operating means to prevent rotation thereof and thereby hold the retractor in retracted position,

In a door lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a tubular knob shank mounted to rotate in said housing, connections between said tubular knob shank and said retractor operable upon rotation of said shank to move said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, a spindle extending axially of said knob shank and movable in opposite directions relatively thereto, dogging means adapted to dog the knob shank against lrotation and shiftable by said spindle from a normal position wherein the knob shank is rotatable to retract the retractor to a dogging position wherein the knob shank is dogged against rotation, means for moving said spindle axially in opposite directions to shift said dogging means into and out of dogging position, blocking means connected to said spindleV and retained against rotation relatively to said knob shank, said blocking means being movable simultaneously with said dogging means upon movement of said spindle to shift said dogging means into and out o-f dogging position, abutment means engageable by said dogging means to prevent movement thereof to dogging position when said knob shank is rotated to a position wherein the retractor is retracted, said spindle and said blocking means being movable independently of said dogging means when the retractor is retracted to position said blocking means in blocking engagement with portions on said knob shank to prevent rotation thereof and thereby hold the latch bolt in withdrawn position.

In a door lock, a housing having dogging abutments, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a knob shank mounted to rotate in said housing, a rollback non-rotatably connected to said knob shank and adapted, upon rotation thereof, to urge said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, said rollback being movable axially of said knob shank into engagement with said dogging abutments to dog said knob shank against rotation, means for moving said rollback into and out of dogging position, a. blocking member non-rotatably mounted in said housing and shiftable axially in opposite directions relatively to said rollback, said blocking member being movable into blocking engagement with said rollback when the retractor is retracted to thereby prevent return rotation of said roll-back and hold the latch bolt in withdrawn position.
13. In a door lock, a housing having dogging abutments, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a tubular knob shank mounted to rotate in said housing, a rollback non-rotatably connected to said knob shank and adapted, upon rotation thereof, to urge said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, said rollback being movable axially relatively to said knob shank into engagement with said dogging abutments to dog said knob shank against rotation, a spindle disposed axially of said knob shank and movable in opposite directions relatively thereto, connections between said spindle and said rollback whereby said rollback is movable into and out of dogging position by said spindle, said connections permitting outward movement of the spindle independently of the rollback, a blocking member connected to said spindle and movable therewith, means preventing rotation of said blocking member relatively to said knob shank, abutment means engageable by said rollback when rotated to a position wherein the retractor is retracted to prevent movement of said rollback into dogging position, said spindle and said blocking member being movable independently of said rollback when the retractor is retracted to thereby permit said blocking member to be moved into a position wherein rotation of the rollback is prevented to hold the latch -bolt in withdrawn position.
14. In a door lock, a housing having dogging abutments, a retractor movable in said housing, -a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a tubular knob shank mounted to rotate in said housing, a rollback non-rotatably connected to said knob shank and adapted, upon rotation thereof, to urge said retractor from a normal position wherein the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position wherein the latch bolt is withdrawn, said rollback being shiftable axially of said knob shank into engagement with said dogging abutments to dog the knob shank against operation, a spindle extending axially of said knob shank and through an opening in said rollback, a shoulder on said spindle, a blocking member connected to said spindle, means on said hofusing preventing rotation of said blocking member relatively to said knob shank, a spring disposed between said blocking member and said rollback and urging said rollback against said shoulder whereby said rollback is movable with said spindle into and out of dogging position, and abutment means on said housing preventing movement of said rollback into dogging position when rotated to a position in which the retractor is retracted, said spindle and said blocking member being movable independently of said rollback when the retractor is retracted rto permit said blocking member to be moved into blocking position relatively to said rollback to prevent return rotation thereof and thereby hold the latch bolt in withdrawn position.

In a door latch or lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, ya latch bolt connected to said retractor, operating means rotatably carried by said housing and including a rollback adapted, upon rotation thereof, to urge said retractor from a normal position in which the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position in which the latch bolt is withdrawn, guide surfaces on said housing extending axially with respect to said rollback, blocking means retained against rotation relatively to said housing through engagement with said guide surfaces and guided thereby for movement axially in opposite directions with respect to said rollback, said blocking means being movable into blocking engagement with said rolly back when the retractor is retracted to prevent rotation of said rollback and thereby hold said latch bolt in withdrawn position, and key operated means for selectively moving said blocking means into and out of blocking position.

In a door latch or lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said: retractor, a knob shank mounted to rotate in said nousn ing and having a knob secured thereto, a rollback nonrotatably connected to said knob shank and adapted, upon'. rotation of said shank, to urge said retractor from a normal position in which the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position in which the latch bolt is withdrawn, guide surfaces in said housing, blocking means non-ro` tatably mounted in said housing through engagement with said guide surfaces and movable into blocking position relatively to said rollback when the retractor is retracted to prevent rotation of said rollback and thereby hold the latch bolt -in withdrawn position, and 'key operated means in said knob adapted to move said blocking means into and out of blocking position.

In a door lock, a housing having guide surfaces, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a knob shank mounted to rotate in said housing and having a knob secured thereto, means operable upon rotation of said knob shank for moving said retractor from a normal position in which the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position in which the latch bolt is withdrawn, dogging means adapted to dog said shank against rotation when the retractor is in its normal position to thereby prevent withdrawal of said latch bolt, blocking means non-rotatably mounted in said housing through engagement with said guide surfaces and movable to a position preventing rotation of said knob shank vwhen 11 said knob shank is moved to a position in which the retractor is retracted to thereby hold said latch bolt in withdrawn position, andkey operatedmeans in said knob controlling both said dogging means and said blocking means.

In a door latch or lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a tubular knob shank rotatably carried by said housing and having a rollback adapted, upon rotation of said shank, to urge said retractor from a normal posi` tion in which the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position in which the latch bolt `is withdrawn, guide surfaces on said housing extending axially with respect to said knob shank, a blocking member retained against rotation relatively to said housing through engagementwith said guide surfaces and movable axially in opposite directions relatively to said knob shank, said blocking member having a blocking portion normally disposed in alignment with a portion of said rollback when said rollback is in its normal position, said portion of the rollback moving out of alignment with said blocking portion when the rollback is rotated to a position in whch the retractor is retracted, and manually operated means carried by said knob shankA for moving said blocking member to a position wherein said blocking portion is disposed in the path of said portion of the rollback to prevent the return of said rollback to its normal position thereby holding the latch bolt withdrawn.

In a door latch or lock, a housing, a retractor movable in said housing, a latch bolt connected to said retractor, a tubular knob shank rotatably carried by said housing and having rollback means adapted to move said retractor from a normal position in which the latch bolt is projected to a retracted position in which the latch bolt is withdrawn, guide surfaces on said housing extending axially with respect to said knob shank, a blocking member retained against rotation relatively to said housing through engagement With said guide surfaces and guided thereby for movement axially with respect to said knob,A shank, said blocking member and said rollback means having portions adapted to be interlocked when said knob shank is in a position corresponding to the retracted position of said retractor to prevent rotation of said knob shank and thereby hold said latch bolt in withdrawn position,` and manually operated means carried by said knob shank for selectively moving said blocking member into and out of interlocking engagement with said rollback means.
