Description

Nov. 8, 1960 Fig. 2/]:
' R. B. NEFF TOILET TISSUE HOLDER AND DISPENSER Filed May 28, 1957 Robert B. Neff INVENTOR.
TOILET TISSUE HOLDER ANDDISPENSER Robert B. Neif, 1804 8th sh, Ro'ck new, n1. Filed May 28, 1957, Ser. No. 662,031 3 Claims. 0. 242-552 The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in roll holders and dispensers particularly for toilet tissue and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a unitary device of this character which is adapted to rotatably hold a single roll of tissue being used while maintaining conveniently at hand a plurality of reserve rolls to be readily removed one at a time and mounted on the holder with but one hand, leaving the other hand free.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a toilet tissue roll holder and dispenser of the character described which will be comparatively simple in construction, strong, durable, compact, of light weight, attractive in appearance and which may be manufactured at low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a toilet tissue holder and dispenser constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a view in vertical section through the device, taken substantially on the line 22 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view, taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2; and
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view, taken substantially on the line 44 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that the embodiment of the invention which has been illustrated comprises a vertically elongated cabinet of suitable metal which is designated generally by reference character 5. The cabinet 5 is of appropriate dimensions to receive a plurality of toilet tissue rolls stacked on end, as indicated at 6. The cabinet 5, which is open at its front, comprises a back 7, a top 8, a bottom 9 and sides 10, said sides including inturned front flanges 11.
The cabinet 5 further comprises a horizontally swingable door 12 on the open front of said cabinet, said door being mounted on one of the sides 10 by suitable hinges 13. The door 12 includes inner and outer metallic plates or panels 14 and 15 (see Figure 2) having their marginal portions secured together. Mounted on the inner side of the free end portion of the door 12 is a latch 16 of the spring-pressed ball type which is engageable behind the flange 11 of the other side 10 of the cabinet 5 for releasably securing said door in closed position. The door 12 is spaced above the bottom 9 a distance exceeding the length of a tissue roll, thus revealing the presence or absence of a second roll in the cabinet 5 without the necessity of opening the door 12. The bottom 9 of the cabinet 5 has formed in its forward portion a substantially V-shaped notch or recess 17. The recess 17 is sufiiciently deep to permit a finger to be inserted in the usual tubular core of the lowermost tissue roll 6 to facilitate its removal from the cabinet 5 when needed.
Screws 18 secure the cabinet 5 in position on a wall United States Patent 0 2,959,368 Patented Nov. 8, 1960 ICC or other support, as indicated at 19. The screws 18 are selectively insertible in vertical series of holes 20 which zontally on the lower end portion of the hanger 22 and extending transversely beneath the cabinet 5 in spaced relation to the bottom 9 thereof is an arm or spindle 25 of substantially U-shaped cross-section. The spindle 25 is adapted to receive thereon the tubular core of the tissue roll being used, as indicated at 26, and said spindle is provided on its free end with an upstanding stop flange or button 27.
It is thought that the use of the device will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the cabinet is installed on a wall 19 or other suitable support through the medium of the screws 18. A tissue roll is mounted on the holder 21 and the cabinet 5 is loaded by opening the door '12, the rolls being stacked on end in said cabinet, as shown. The space between the flanges 11 is such as to necessitate slight pressure on the rolls 6 when inserting same in the cabinet 5. Thus, the rolls will be prevented from falling from the cabinet when the door 12 is opened. When the paper on the holder 21 is exhausted, the core 26 is removed endwise from the spindle 25 in an obvious manner, said core passing over the stop flange or button 27. It will be noted that the end portions of the flange or button 27 merge with the spindle 25. Without opening the door 12, a replacement roll 6 is removed from the cabinet 5. As hereinbefore stated, this is accomplished by inserting a finger in the tubular core of the vertical lowermost roll 6, this being permitted by the recess 17. The replacement roll is then slipped on the spindle 25 where it is retained by the flange 27. Of course, when the bottom or lowermost roll is thus removed from the cabinet 5, the rolls remaining in said cabinet drop by gravity.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A toilet tissue holder and dispenser comprising a rectangular elongated cabinet having three perpendicularly disposed closed side portions, a pair of opposed flanges supported by two of said closed side portions defining an open side portion, a hingedly mounted door carrying a spring urged ball latch partially closing said open side portion and so defining a closed open side portion and an opened open side portion, a bottom portion supported by said closed side portions and adjacent said opened open side portion, said bottom portion adapted to support toilet tissue rolls stacked end to end and extending into the cabinet area defined by said closed side portions and said closed open side portion, a forwardly opening recess in said bottom portion, and a holder for rotatably supporting a single roll depending from said cabinet below said bottom portion, said holder including a hanger secured to a closed side portion and depending therefrom, and a spindle of substantially U- shaped transverse section horizontally cantilevered from the hanger and extending beneath the bottom portion and spaced therefrom.
