FASTENER FOR GLOVES, SHOES, etc.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,914, dated April 1, 1884. I v Application filed February 4,1884. (l\ 'o model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WiLLIAM LAWRENCE ment in Fasteners for Gloves, Shoes, 850. and

I do hereby declarethe same to be described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a top view, and Fig. 2 a longi tudinal section, of the fastener as applied to the two parts of the glove, shoe, or other article to be closed by it. Fig. 3 is a top view, and Fig. 4 an edge view, of the pivotal support-piece of the lever ofsuch fastener; while Fig. 5 is a topview, Fig. 6 an edge view, and Fig. 7 a longitudinal section, of the eye of the fastener.

The nature of my invention is defined in the claims hereinafter presented.

In such drawings, A and B denote two portions of a shoe or glove or other article to be drawn together by the said fastener. An eye, 0, made of wire bent in manner as repre sented in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, or otherwise suitably made, is sewed or fastened to the portion A, andextends therefrom in manner as represented. The portion B has fixed to it the pivotal support-piece D of the fastener, such support-piece consisting of a metallic plate, a, provided with two ears, I) b, and one or more spurs, c, projecting from it, as shown. The cars and spurs go through the portion B, the spurs being afterward turned or bent down upon it. A rivet, d, also goes through the part a and the portionB and'a metallic washer,

. 6, arranged as shown, such rivet being upset upon the said washer.

To prevent the lever from being accidentally thrown upward, there is fixed to the portion B an elastic loop, G, arranged so as to be capable of being looped on and slipped off the free end portion of the lever.

I claim- 1.' The fastener substantially as described, composed of the eye O, hook F, bow-shaped lever E, and its fulcrum support-piece D, ar-

ranged and applied in manner and to operate essentially as set forth.

2. The lever-fulcrum support-piece D, pro vided with one or more spurs, c, and the pivotal ears I) I), in combination with the bowshaped lever E, fulcrumed to such ears, and with the hook F, pivoted to such lever, and to operate with an eye, 0, all being substantially and for use as set forth.

3. The combination of the elastic loop G with the part B and the fastener-lever E, its supp0rt-piece D, and hook F, and with the eye 0, adapted to the part A and to engage with the said hook, all being substantially as set forth.
