Filed June 5, 1958, Ser. No. 740,009
1 Claim. (Cl. 68-181) This invention relates to a diaper washing device.
Soiled diapers have long provided a problem. The device of the present invention enables soiled diapers to be cleansed and rinsed whereby washing by hand or in a suitable machine is simplified and expedited.
It is in general the broad object of the present invention to provide a simple, inexpensive washing device for cleaning babies diapers quickly and efliciently and without the necessity of soiling the hands.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a diaper washer which can be readily manipulated.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a diaper washer in which the washing operation is visible at all times so that the washing operation can be observed and suitably concluded when completed.
The invention includes other objects and features of advantage, some of which, together with the foregoing, will appear hereinafter wherein the present preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed.
Referring to the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan view of the diaper washer of this invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation, partly in section, through the diaper washer.
Figure 3 is a bottom view of the spray head utilized in conjunction with the washing bowl.
Referring to the drawings and particularly to Figures 1 and 2 thereof, the device comprises a generally annular receptacle or trough 6 which is of generally elliptical cross section, as is shown in Figure 2. The annulus includes an open top 8 and an inner cylindrical portion 9 defining the inner edge of the annulus. The outer side wall 11 extends upwardly and inwardly, while the inner side wall 12 defining the cylindrical portion 9 terminates about midway of the elevation of the outer sidewall.
A circular rim 14 is mounted on the bottom of the annulus and provides a seating element which enables the device to be mounted on the aperture in the typical seat portion of a toilet or commode. At one end the top of the annulus is relieved as at 16 to provide an open portion, for ready access to the interior of the annulus. A plurality of spaced apertures 17 are provided about the bottom of the annulus to permit ready draining of water.
Means are provided for spraying water forcefully upon the interior of the annulus and, referring particularly to 2,959,046 Patented Nov. 8, 1960 Figure 3, this means is provided by a spray rrng 21. The spray ring includes four spaced legs 22 cut away as at 24 to fit within the cylindrical portion 9 and mounting the ring in a spaced position, as is shown in Figure 2, to spray water forcefully onto a diaper in the annular chamber from several nozzles 23 provided adjacent each leg. The nozzles eject water downwardly and radially of the annulus so that a diaper is rolled around upon itself and, at the same time, is caused to move about the annulus from one water jet past the next in a counterclockwise direction in Figure 1, the water jets cleansing the diaper of any adhering material and providing a thorough rinsing. Excess water spills over the edge of the inner portion 9, while when the water is shut ofl, any remaining water drains through the holes 17. Water is supplied to the spray ring 21 from any convenient source, for example, through the flexible hose 26, which can be attached to a faucet or nozzle by any convenient means.
In operation, one can grasp the corner of the diaper with ones fingers and, holding it thusly, any loose solids can be readily dropped through the ring 21 and the por tion 9 into the bowl beneath. The diaper is then dropped through the open portion 16 into the annulus and the water turned on. The diaper will be rolled around upon itself as it passes about the annulus, this being permitted to continue until the desired cleanliness of the diaper has been achieved.
From the foregoing, I believe it will be apparent that I have provided a novel, simple and improved diaper washer which is readily transportable and which can be so constructed as to be made relatively inexpensively.
I claim:
A diaper washer comprising a generally torus-shaped structure composed of a generally circular, hollow-centered base having inner and outer upright, generally cylindrical walls and a generally open top, said inner wall being of a lesser height than said outer wall, whereby to provide a centrally located fluid exit operative when the fluid level within said structure exceeds the height of said inner wall, said outer wall having an inturned lip about the topmost edge thereof; means for spraying fluid downwardly toward said base, said means comprising a generally circular fluid manifold mounted on legs supported by said inner wall, said manifold having a plurality of fluid jet orifices in the underside thereof, said orifices being directed generally downwardly toward the base of said structure; and means for supplying fluid under pressure to the interior of said manifold ring.
