Description

C. B. GREGOfW.
} FIOUT No. 2,952. Patented Feb. 16, 1843.
UNITE CLARK B. GREGORY, OF DANBURY, CONNECTICUT.
GRIST-MILL.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 2,952, dated February 16, .1843.
To all whom it may concem:
Be it known that I, CLARK B. GREGORY, of Danbury, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mills for Grinding Grain, of which the following is a full and accurate description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this specification.
A A is a concave of stone of the kind used in constructing millstones supported on an oblong frame between the side pieces or timbers D D thereof as in machines for threshing grain, &c., and B B a cylinder of the same kind of stone adapted to the concave A A and having a shaft E passing through its center, said shaft being supported at each end on and turning in boxes G G, like those in common use for similar purposes, the boxes being attached by screws or otherwise to a piece of timber C placed lengthwise on top of the side pieces or timbers D D of the frame. These timbers C C are hinged at one end to the extremity of the sides DVD to allow of their being raised and lowered so as to alter the set of the stone for the purpose of grinding finer or coarser, or wholly remove it from its bed for repair, as may be necessary. To effect this the timbers C C are provided, at the ends opposite to those that are hinged, with set screws F F the points of which when screwed down pass into corresponding female screws in the upper face of the side timbers D D causing must be had also that the inner end A of the concave is not elevated too much as the same difficulty would occur at this point from the '1 same cause.
Having described my improved -mill for grinding grain, plaster of Paris, 620., what I claim as my invention and desire to se cure by Letters Patent is as follows, viz:
I claim in combination with said cylinder and concave the mode of altering the set of the stones so as to grind finer or coarser by means of the hinged frame or timbersC C supporting said cylinder provided with set screws F F and raised or lowered by means of said set screws this arrangement allowing also of the cylinder being wholly lifted from its bed for repair.
CLARK B. GREGORY.
