LEVI THRUSH AND LEONARD VVILSON OF BROOKVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
TIMBER AND LUMBER STAMR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 294,936, dated March. 11, 1884.
Application filed November 251, 1882. ()Imlel.)
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, LEVI THRUsH and LEONARD WVILsoN, both of Brookville, in the county of Jefferson and State .of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Timber and Lumber Stamp, of which the following is ter-wheels loose upon an axis, a.
a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention willfirst be described in connection withall that is necessary to a full understanding thereof, and then pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side elevation of a timber and lumber stamp; Fig. 2, a plan view, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation with ahead and shield in section.
In the drawings, A A represent two characb is a head having the socket c for the handle, central bearings for the axis, and an opening at top and bottom. Through these openings extend the stamp-heads, which are arranged at intervals 011 periphery of each of the loose wheels and provided with numerals fromO to 9, inclusive. f f represent the side plates of the head. Up to this point there is nothing essentially new.
Each of the separate wheels is provided with a side ratchet, d, on the inside, and e e are two lever-pawls 011 the sanic fulcrum, held up by spring 0 at the rear, having their opposite faces in close contact, and provided with flattened rear ends, both of which may be readily covered at one time by the thumb. By this construction and arrangement of the pawls and ratchets, the simple pressure of the thumb of one hand raises both pawls, and thus greatly simplifies the operation of the device, and enables it to be used very rapidly.
The stamp-heads may be struck with a mallet to cause those diametrically opposite to stamp, or the tool may be used as a sledge'to effect the same object.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new i s A timber and lumber stamp provided with two separate stamp-wheels, A A, having the inside ratchetwheels, (1 (l, and the two lever-pawls e 6, arranged side by side on the same fulcrum, said pawls being provided at the rear with flattened ends supported by springs, and both adapted to be operated simultaneously by the same thumb,as described.
