nited States This invention relates .to facing for concrete or cinder blocks in the construction of walls or buildings, the primary object of the invention being to provide a facing for the surfaces of walls which will completely cover usually unattractive surfaces of concrete or cinder blocks, to lend beauty to the wall surfaces constructed with such blocks and provide a wall of pleasing-appearance.
' An important object of the invention is to provide a wall covering embodying a plurality of units constructed of sheet metal or plastic material and formed with overlapping ends simulating shingles, weather boarding or the like when properly attached to a wall surface.
Still another object of the-invention is to provide Wall facing sections having flanges adapted to fit between adja cent blocks of building or wall structure, providing an exceptionally rigid wall.
A further object of the invention is to provide awall facing that will not only enhance the appearance of the wall, but one which will insulate the wall against heat and cold. V
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as. claimed.

, Referring to the drawings in detail, 'the various face strip sections are better shown by sheet 2 of the drawings,
in which a facing strip used in facing portions of the horizontal runs or layers of blocks iu'the formation of awall, are indicated by the reference character A, and as shown these facing sections are each provided with a laterally extended longitudinally disposed upper flange 5, terminating in a downwardly extended flange 6.
These downwardly extended flanges 6 of the facing strips A are of lengths so that their lower ends terminate in spaced relation with the lower edge of the block over which .the facing strip is positioned.
Facing strips C are provided with longitudinal laterally extended flanges 7 and downwardly directed laterally extended flanges 8 which also terminate in spaced relation with the lower edge of the facing strip C. Each corner facing section D, better shown by Fig. 5 of the drawings, comprises a length of ornamental sheet material bent at right angles intermediate the ends thereof, theupper marginaledges thereof being extended laterally providing flanges 8, the adjacent inner ends of the flanges 8 being cut away providing a space 9. t
Since the corner sections D have side plates that are of a length to cover only one-half of the'length of the block on which the sections D are positioned, short side sections B are provided, each section B having anupper laterally extended flange 10, and a laterally extended end flange 11, the flange -11 terminating short of the lower edge of the section as shown by Fig. 4 of the drawings, to permit the section to overlap the upper edge of the adjacent lower building block.
It will, of course, be understood that the facing strips as shown by Fig. 4, are used in facing a wall at the right of a corner while the facing strips that are used in facing the wall surface at the left of the corner are slightly different, as shown by Fig. 7, in that the end flange 12 corresponding to the end flange 11 of Fig. 4, is formed along the opposite end of said facing strip, the flange 13, however, being identical with the flange 10 of the facing strip shown in Fig. 4.
Facing strip sections E are also provided and used in facing a wall wherein the facing sections A are used, the facing strips E having a laterally extended flange 14 formed along one longitudinal edge thereof and a substantially short laterally extended flange 15 extended at right angles to said flange 14, and spaced from the end of the strips, providing an extension on said strips E adapted to fit between adjacent ends of building blocks and. anchored in place by the mortar placed between the building blocks, for holding the building blocks and facing strips inplace.

Here it might be stated that thesefacing strips E provide an extension 16 at one end thereof adapted to overlap the adjacent ends of wall blocks that occur at a point intermediate the ends of the various rows of blocks ofa wall. I V
V v In order that the facing strips will be securely held in position, the various flanges are formed with openings 17 providing pockets for the reception of mortar placed between adjacent bricks or building blocks in the construction of building walls, and between which building blocks the various flanges of the facing strips are inserted holding the facing strips in place.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:
A wall comprising, in combination, wall blocks laid in courses forming a building wall and secured together by mortar,-and a wall facing comprising a plurality of ornamental metal facing strips positioned over the outer faces of said building blocks, said strips have a greater frontal area than said outer faces of said blocks and Patented ul 12, 1960 formed therein providing pockets for the reception of mortar positioned between the adjacent surfaces of said wall blocks.
