, SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 294,277, dated February 26, 188 4.
- Application filed December 20, 1883. (X0 model.)
The main object of this invention is to combine with a finger -.ring or bracelet a lock whereby the article may be adjusted to the finger or wrist for promoting comfort and safety; and to this end it consists in a rotating lock-plate, which is arranged in the head of the ring or bracelet on a suitable key-arbor, and constructed with one or more canrsl'ots to engage with studs on the shank of the ring, this shank being left detached from the head, so that if the proper motion is imparted to the rotating plate it acts onthe shank studs by means of the cam-slots to contract or expand the shank,
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows'a ring in top view embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional side view thereof. Fig. 3 is a sectional top view of the same. Figs. 4 and 5 show different forms of keys the lock.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
The letter A designates the ring-head; B, the ring-shank; O, the lockplate; D, its camslots; *E, the key-arbor, and F the'studs of the ring-shank.
The shank B is left detached from the head A, its ends being merely inserted in the head, as shown in Fig. 2, and the studs F are located at points near the ends of the shank, the same engaging with the cam-slots D of the lockplate by entering such slots. The lock-plate O is arranged within the head A on the arbor E, the latter being integral with the plate, and being centered'in the head to rotate therein, and the cam-slots D are formed in corresponding positions relatively to the arbor, so that when the plate is turned by means of the arfor' ring-shank is contracted or expanded, as the case maybe. The ends of the cam-slots are preferably shaped with offsets to receive the studs, as shown. to receive a key, G, which may be plain, as shown in Fig. 4, or provided with a gem, I,
as shown inFig. 5. To admit either of these keys or the key-arbor, the top J of the ring head is provided with a key-hole, K, which,
.in Figs. 1 and 2, may be hidden by an orna- The arbor E is constructed It is evident that in a braceletthe parts may be arranged in the same relation to each other as herein described, while the parts constituting the lock can be applied to any other general purpose, as for operating bolts. One of the cam-slots of'the lock-plate, moreover, may be omitted.
What I claim as new,and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is,
.'The combination, with a fin ger-ring or bracelet 'having its shank left detached from the FRANZ J. SOHINDL'ER. [L. s]
