Description

r The present-invention has, for its a device for clamping Warp threads acomb element so disposed that D I F R LAMP- st THREADS Q OFAWARP Alois Altenweger, Uster, Switzerland, assigiior to-"Zellwege'r A.G., Apparateund Maehinentahriken. Uste'r, Uster, Switzerland, a corporation of Switzerland Fired J l s asset N9 1 1 552- c 1 '1; Claims priority, application Switzerland sepn 10, 1951 1 Claims. cm-n e provision of comprising the warp lie respectively inthe teethcornprising said comb and also includes a tensioning means which acts to press the warp threads against suitable elements which act as'pressure pads and which are normally integral or form a unitary structure with hich Ele'vrc lncludes 1 2,942,324 ?etente. Jun 2 1- 60 of the thread blocking means shown, it is also possible to close the spaces between the comb teeth and prevent the warp threads from slipping out of position by placing a cover over the points of the comb teeth.
Such a comb is particularly useful if it can be employed as a part of Warp clamping means during the tying of the warp with the aid of a'warp tying" machine.-
For this purpose the comb teeth '1 are provided with surfaces 6 and 7 against which abut corresponding. parts of a clamping device. This clamping device comprises,
. for example, a generally rectangular profiled hollow bar or sleeves which contains a bar 9 of L-shapedprofile while is laterally movable and displaceable therein; The
bars S and '9 have jaw portions 19 and .11 respectively,
which can be brought closer together by movement toward e'achother when sawtooth faced or profiled rods -12 gand13, which liejwithin thehollowbar'8 and rest on and opposed motion of sawtooth-faced earns .12 and 13 f the comb teeth. Such warp clamping and tensioning devices are commonly utilized in pairs when employed in connection with warp tying machines, thread drawing-in machines and the like, so that the individual threads comprising said warp may be presented to a thread separating means in an orderly and parallel fashion so thatthey may "be separated from the warp as individual threads fora subsequent operation.
Other objects of this invention, will appear from the following detailed description and the accompanying drawing.
. In the drawing, in which there is shown a preferred embodiment'of an apparatus designed and constructed in accordancewith the present invention:
Fig. l is 'a sectional view of the device of this invention taken across the longitudinal axis of the comb,
Fig. 2 is a lateral and front elevational view of said device taken along the length of the comb, saidview also being partly in section, and
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a portion of the thread tensioning means of this invention, which view is taken in a direction vertical to the plane of the warp.
Like numerals indicate likeparts throughout the several j a 7 views of the drawing.
The comb vwhich forms one of the essential elements the horizontal portionofthe L-shaped ban .are moved oppositely and preferably simultaneously in the direction shown by each of the arrows in Fig. 3. This simultaneous in Fig. 3, the jaw 11 moves to the left and, as a consequence,'the comb is forced downward into the clamping means. The jaws 10 and 11 thereby exert a pressure on the warp threads ,4 which are thus held against the surfaces 14 and 15 of the sleeve 3 which is firmly and rigidly attached to the comb teeth 1.
The surfaces 14 and 15 are advantageously so designed that they lie substantially in but a single plane and so that of the device of this invention comprises, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, a plurality of teeth l individually having root portions which are separated from each other by means of spacing elements 2 and are also held in position by means of anoblong rectangular element or sleeve 3 which surrounds the feet or root portions of the teeth 1. On both ends of each comb there are provided suitable locking elements (not shown) which prevent the several teeth and the spacing elements 2 which separate the teeth from falling from the open ends of sleeve 3. The length of the comb is equal to at least the width of the warp being acted upon. The comb can be so placed in position in cooperation with a warp held under tension that the spaces between the teeth 1 may contain one or more warp threads 4 as shown in Fig. 2.
' associated with saidcomb for pressing the warp threads I received in the gaps between the teeth of the comb against.
In the embodiment of the clamping device shown" in the drawing, the several teeth 1 are each provided with a'hol'e through which a circular rod 5 which is "equal in length to the comb, can bepassed after the warp threads have been placed in, position between the comb teeth. In
place the comb ,into' the warp aslong as it is on'a finishing this manner it is possible, among other operations, to
is possible to cover either the surfaces 14 and 15 ,or the v jaws 10 and 11 with a fiexibleor yielding material or to form them of such a material. This expedient is preferred since the use of such a flexible material as a surface allows a certain amount of distortion and permits .warp'threads of quite different countsto ,be held in V clamped position in the same place.
What is claimed is: a a
1. A device for clamping the threads of a 'warp com- I prising a comb including an oblong element and spaced teeth extending therefrom and forming gaps receiving the warp threads, and movable clamping means operatively said oblong element.
2. A device as defined in claim 1 in which said teeth and said movable clamping means have corresponding surface portions slidably engaging one another and guiding said movable clamping means into the thread clamping position. i
; .3. 'Aldevice according to claim lin which said teeth individually have afree end :and a root portion received in said oblong element and aportion whose extension, f seen in the longitudinal axis; of the comb, increases in the directionaway from said root portion, for forming inclined surfaces on said teeth laterally of the comb, said clamping means being movable towards and from the sides of' said comb and having inclined surfaces cor- 3 responding to and slidably engaging said inclined surfaces of said teeth for moving said comb in the direction towards the free ends of the teeth and pressing said element against said clamping means.'
4. A device according to claim 1 in which said oblong element has a substantially plane surface portion on which lie the warp threads received between said teeth, said surface portion being located substantially in the plane formed by the warp threads, and said clamping means pressing the warp threads against said surface portion.
5. A device according to claim 1,' including closing means removably extending through said teeth for closing thegaps between the teeth and retaining the warp thread in the gaps; '1
6. In a warp clamping'device for clamping the several threads of a warp in substantially parallel arrangement, the combination of an upper hollow sleeve and a lower hollow sleeve, said upper hollow sleeve containing the root portions of a plurality of spaced teeth extending downwardly into said lower sleeve thereby forminga comb substantially coextensive in length with said upper and lower sleeves and adapted to receive warpthreads 4 therebetween, means cooperating with said teeth and said lower sleeve for holding said upper and lower sleeves in fixed position relative to each other and including adjustable clamping means positioned in said lower sleeve adapted to press upward against the warp threads between the comb teeth and cause said threads to engage the lower. surface of the upper sleeve.
7. A warp clamping device in accordance with claim 6 wherein the warp thread clamping means in said lower sleeve comprises a jaw adapted to press upward against the warp threads on positive lateral displacement and cause said threads to engage the lower surface of the upper sleeve, and a pair of saw-toothed, horizontal cams in operative contact with said jaw for actuating said jaw intorupwardly pressing engagement by the displacement relative to each other of said cams.
