Definitions

  • Stripping devices for bobbins or weft carriers are known in which stripping members are reciprocated by a crank mechanism on guides arranged parallel to the axis of the bobbin, and engaged and disengaged with the bobbin by a spring mechanism. These devices are complicated and big machines. They are useful only with bobbins of a special diameter, and, owing to the parallel guiding of the conical bobbin, a small amount of the remaining filling or yarn cannot be entirely stripped otf. There are also devices mounted directly on the looms where the yarn remaining on a bobbin is unwound by turning the bobbin.
  • the present invention provides a simple and strong stripping device, having simple means for adjustment to any diameter and any angle of cone of the bobbin, and furthermore adapted to be mounted directly on the loom.
  • the principal feature of the stripping device embodying the invention is that stripping members or jaws are carried by endless pull means, for instance endless chains.
  • endless pull means for instance endless chains.
  • Two endless pull means maybe provided for each bobbin at diametrically opposed sides of the latter.
  • These endless chains are simple but strong and adapted to clean the filling from the bobbin along the entire length thereof.
  • the bobbin with the remaining filling is transferred from the ejection point of a shuttle to the stripping device by way of an inclined slide with a guide for the thickened foot of the bobbin.
  • Such guide has a slot above the stripping device with approximately the shape of the spent bobbin with the remaining filling, so that only a spent bobbin can fall through such slot. Owing to the shape of this slot bobbins with full filling are made to pass further along the side into another container. The spent bobbin can fall with its thickened foot uppermost through an enlarged part of the slot into a reception slot of the stripping device arranged exactly under this enlarged part.
  • Fig. 1 is a side view of the loom with the stripping device mounted thereon;
  • Fig. 2 is a fragmentary front view of the loom having a stripping device according to Fig. l;
  • Fig. 3 is a front view of the striping device on enlarged scale with the protecting casing removed;
  • Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken along line IV-lV of Fig. 3, and
  • Fig. 5 is a top view on the stripping device with the protecting casing partly broken away.
  • the guide members 7 are adapted to be adjusted transversally to the axis of the bobbin. This allows the guide members to be adjusted with respect .to the diameter as well as to the angle of cone of the bobbin 8 and to be fixed in the adjusted positions by means of the nuts 14, 15.
  • the bars 13 carry angle pieces 16 through which screws 17 are screwed to bear against guide members 7 and adjust and fix the same.
  • the endless chains 6 carry stripping jaws 18 for the filling 19 remained on the bobbin 8, and such jaws are guided close to the bobbin 8 while moving along runs 6 for gripping the remaining filling with their projecting claws and cleaning the whole length of the bobbin 8.
  • the guide members 7 By suitably adjusting the guide members 7, the complete stripping off and cleaning of the bobbin 8 is ensured.
  • gears 26 Fixed to the back ends of the lower shafts 3 are gears 26 of equal size in meshing engagement with one another and thus driving the endless chains 6 in opposite directions (see the arrows) at equal speed.
  • One of the shafts 3 is elongated at its back end and there turther carries a pulley 2i driven by a belt 22 from a pulley 23 fixed on the main shaft 24 of the loom 25 (Fig. 1).
  • the spent bobbins ejected by a working shuttle 26 are accepted by an inclined slide 27 which is provided with a guide 28 for the foot 29 of the bobbin 8.
  • This guide is preferably of rectangular cross-section and the successive spent bobbins move alongthe guide under the influence of gravity.
  • each spent bobbin with its foot directed upward reaches a point immediately above the stripping device where the slide 27 is provided with a slot 30 of approximately the shape of the bobbin.
  • the slide 27 is provided with a slot 30 of approximately the shape of the bobbin.
  • the slide 27 is provided with a slot 30 of approximately the shape of the bobbin.
  • the bobbin As soon as the bobbin has reached the slot, its tapered end falls into this slot and thereby the thickened foot 29 of the bobbin 8 is lifted out of its guide 28.
  • the bobbin slides down with its foot 29 moving along the slot 343 in the inclined slide until it reaches an enlargement 31 of the slot 30 through which the thickened foot can pass.
  • a reception slot 33 defined at its opposite sides by two plates 32 spaced apart by a distance smaller than the diameter of the foot of the bobbin.
  • the thickened foot 29 of the spent bobbin is suspended from the plates 32 with the tapered end of the bobbin directed downwardly through the reception slot in perpendicular position.
  • a lever 34 is pivotally mounted on a pin 35 located behind the bobbin 8 on the back wall 1 of the casing and forms a bellcrank lever with a further lever 36 fixedly secured to lever 34.
  • the lever 36 lies in the path of a stop 37 fixed on the chain 6, and is pivoted downwardly against the action of a spring 38 by the action of stop 37 engaging lever 36.
  • the lever 34 is pivoted forwardly and it pushes the bobbin 8 having its foot 29 caught by the reception slot 33, forward out of slot 33 and between cheeks 39 which are displaceable perpendicular to the axis of the bobbin and urged toward each other by a spring 4d.
  • the cheeks have the shape of the foot of the bobbin which is provided with the usual guide rings, and thus yieldably hold the foot of the bobbin that has been pushed between the cheeks.
  • the cheeks 39 are each provided with a small arcuate recess 41 corresponding to the diameter of the foot of the bobbin for gripping it tightly.
  • a bridge defining the front end ofthe reception slot 33 is for- Wardly'displaceable against the. action of springs 48. This dlisnlaee ble. arrangement of bridge 47 prevents clamping oi the. bobbins when they fall down during the forward movement of the :lever 3:4.
  • the lever 36 with its spring 3& isproteeted. by a screen 49 fixed on one of the bars 13.
  • pivoting points on the pivots 2 and shafts 3 are lubrica ed by a centralized lubricating system.
  • a stripping device for removing yarn from a bobbin comprising means for supporting a bobbin from hich yarn is to be. removed, endless flexible members, means guiding said flexible members for movement oi th latter along paths having runs extending along the axi Qfi a bobbin carried by said supporting means, and stripping jaws carried by said endless flexible members to axially; remove yarn from a bobbin carried by said supporting means during movement of said jaws along said 3 .1
