APPARATUS FOR BOILING AND DISTILLING.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 29,376, dated July 31, 1860.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, \VILLIAM HOFFMIRE, of the city and county of San Francisco, in the State of California, have invented a new and Improved Mode of Boiling and Distilling by an Apparatus which I call Hoffmires Circulating Heater; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

A, is a furnace, made of iron, copper or other suitable metal, surrounded by a water jacket, either single or divided into compartments, as represented by r, and 8; Z, is a grate for sustaining the fuel; B and C, are reservoirs to contain the liquid for boiling or distilling, severally connected with the water jackets by pipes t, and couplings b, b, or flanges c, c; O, O, are regulating cocks by which the liquor in either of the reservoirs B, and C, may be made to heat faster or slower, or byplacing a cock at Z) or c,

the jacket can be converted into a steam boiler from which by a pipe the steam may be conducted to a steam table, a steam bath, or be used for any other similar purpose; a, and i, are cocks to be used in drawing off the liquor; D, is a double cover with a water space between, from which the heated water can be circulated, through pipes o, to heat the liquor in a reservoir to be attached thereto, if required, said cover D, being placed on the furnace as shown in Figure 1, can be used to receive pots and other utensils for cooking including an oven as represented by E; F is an oven surrounding the stove pipe; is, is a grate to receive sad irons for heating.

, and is peculiarly adapted for use on farms and places where economy is desired.

I do not claim as new, boiling by surrounding the fire surface with the liquid to be boiled, neither do I claim the ovens E, and F, the same being in common use; nor do I claim the sad iron grate Z0, nor the regulating cocks O, O.

I do not confine myself to the precise form or arrangement of the parts, as these may be much varied without changing the principle of the invention.

I claim 1. The water jackets as shown by r, and s, in Fig. 3 divided into two or more compartments, each connected with a separate reservoir or boiler as shown by B, and C, in Figs. 1, and 2, with regulating cocks O, O.

2. The double top D, with the space for water or other liquid with the pipes V, for attaching the same to a reservoir when re quired; also the combination of the cooking apparatus with the above described apparatus for boiling, distilling or steaming, either with a single or divided water jacket, the whole making a complete and portable apparatus to be used for the purposes specified.
