2 Claims. (Cl. 272-80) The present invention generally relates to an exercising. device which may be employed for playing a game whereby the exercising device becomes a game apparatus.

The primary object of the present invention is to provide a game apparatus whereby two persons may exercise each other while playing a game.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an exercising game apparatus which pits the strength and physical prowess of one player against the other player for exercising and developing these the players.

Another important object of the present invention is to provide an exercising game apparatus which is extremely simple in construction, easy to use, Well adapted qualities in,

for its intended purposes and relatively inexpensive to manufacture. 7

These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the game apparatus of the present invention in use and showing the relationship of the persons using the game apparatus; and

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the game apparatus.

Referring now specifically to the game apparatus, which is generally designated by the reference numeral 19, Figure 1 illustrates the device being used by two players 12 and 14 with the player 12 hereafter being called the first player and the player 14 hereafter called the second player.

The game apparatus includes an elongated flexible rope 16 which may be made of any suitable material of any desired size but which may conveniently be one-quarter inch manila or nylon material and having an overall length from two to three feet between a pair of handles 18 and 20. Each of the handles 18 and 20 is provided with an aperture 22 through which the rope 16 extends and a knot 24 is provided on the rope for locating the handle 20 and assuring that it does not move completely to the end of the rope 16. v

Each terminal end of the rope 16 is attached to a safety belt construction designated by numeral 26 and '28. The safety belts 26 and 28. are of identical construction and are disposed in waist encircling relation on the respective players 12 and 14 with buckle means 39 being provided'for securing the safety straps 26 and 28 in position. It is noted that the rope 16 exteriorly of the knot 24 is provided with a slack portion.32 which will permit relative movement between the handles 18 and 20 and the safety belts 26 and 28.

In using the device of the present invention, both players 12 and 14 start in a sitting position with their feet in engagement as illustrated in Figure 1. The first ice inclined position by outward movement df-the first "player 12 to the dotted line position shown in the left hand portion of Figure l. The second player 14 then pulls the first player 12 past the upright position to an inwardly inclined position by movement to the dotted line position shown in the right hand portion of Figure 1, thereby creating a see-saw action as both players move back and forth until a foul is committed. A foul may be committed by either of the players bending their knees, losing the grip handle and otherwise failing to operate the device in the proper manner. The safety belts 26 and 28 prevent the handles 18 and 20 respectively from flying across and striking the second player in the event the first player suddenly released or lost grip of the handle when pulling force is being exerted on the other end of the rope or on the other. handle. The release of the handle would cause the force vbeing exerted on the rope to jerk the handle towards the other end of the rope and possibly cause injury to the person holding the other end of the rope,

While the safety belt has been shown attached to the 'wearer by the belt encircling the waist, it is pointed out that the slack portion 32 could be conveniently attached to any part of the body or any extremity thereon.

Thus, with the present device, an amusing game may be played while at the same time body building exercises are being carried out.

The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all' suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What is claimed as new is as follows:

1. An apparatus for use in exercising and playing a game by two persons disposed in facing relation and in a sitting position with their feet in abutting engagement, said apparatus comprising an elongated flexible member of a length generally equal to the distance between the normal positions of the'hands of the persons, and a I handle mounted on each end of the flexible member for jury in the event of sudden release of the handle by one of the players while the elongated flexible member is under tension. 7

2. An exercising game apparatus for use by two persons disposed in facing relation and in a sitting position with their feet invabutting engagement, said apparatus comprising an elongated flexible member, .a safety belt disposed in waist encircling relation to each person, said elongated flexible member having the terminal ends attached to said safety belts, a pair of handles anchored to said flexible member adjacent the terminal ends thereof and being spaced from the safety belts, said handles beingsp aced apart a distance substantially equal to the distance between the normal positions of the hands of the persons whereby movement of one persons hands causes corresponding movement of the hands of the other person, the portion of the flexible member between the handles and the safety belts being normally slack thereby providing relative movement therebetween but preventing injury to one person in the event of sudden release of the handle by the other per- Patented May 11,1960
