. OZONIZING TUBE Filed May 2]., 1956 INVENTOR."
Err/n a $2: Zzzm (/62 OZONIZING TUBE Bruno Lattuada, Zurich, Switzerland, assignor to Intertrade Alttienges'ellschaft, Zurich, Switzerland Application May 21, 1956, Serial No. 586,217 8 Claims priority, application Switzerland June 8, 1955 3 Claims. c1. zoo-52o This invention concerns an ozonizing tube having a holding and current supply device. As generally known,
such tubes are used in air conditioning systems and have a glass cylinder which on both sides, inwardly and outwardly, is provided with a conductive layer.
It is an object of the invention to provide an ozonizing tube, having a'glass cylinder supported at either end on two metal holders provided with terminals and including a portion formed as a resilient clamp for connection to a layer of the glass cylinder and the other to the outer conductive layer thereof.
In this manner a particularly simple holding and current supply device is provided, since these holders each are formed of a single piece and at the same time represent a portion of the current supply member.
The invention will now be more particularly described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing, showing an axial section through an ozonizing tube according to the invention.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the glass cylinder of the tube, which in a manner known per se isprovided with an inner metal layer 2 and an outer metal layer 3, e.g. a thin wire meshing or perforated sheet metal. The two metal layers do not extend to the ends of the glass cylinder 1. .Two metal holders ,4, each consisting of a single integral piece, are provided as 'a support and holding means 4 for the tube. The holders 4 are secured to. the bottom of the apparatus into which the tube is mounted; moreover, saidsholders are provided with terminal's' d for connection to a current supply.
The top end portion of the holder 4 is fonned'ias a "loop-shaped resilient clamp in. These clamps 4a engage the associated marginal section of the cylinder, which is free from any metal layer. Contact strips 6 and 7,
respectively, formed for instance by metal foil, are engaged between each of saidclanips and the adjacent end portion of the metal cylinder. The contactv strip 6, disposed on the left in the drawing, is electrically connected to the outer layer 3 of the cylinder, while the contact strip 7 disposed on the right in the drawing, is electrically 'connected'to' the inner layer 2 of the cylinder. Consequently, the current supply means, extending from the terminals 5 to the two conductive layers 2, 3, are formed, each by one of the holders 4 and the associated contact strip -6and 7, respectively.
For the removal of the tube from the described holding and current supply device, the free ends 8 of the resiliently formedclamps 4a are outwardly urged by hand, so
' United States Patent Patented May 10,
that the clamps do will open and the tube may be removed fromthe holders 4. Thereby the electric connection between the terminals 5 and the conductive layers 2 and 3 of the tube are interrupted, and a separateloosen ing of electrical connections thus is not required;
The described holding and current supply device 0on sists of few individual parts which are simple in their construction; thus a simple mounting or exchanging of the tuheis obtained. a Iclaim: I 1. An ozonizing tubephaving holding and current supply means, said tube comprising a cylinder of non conductive material open at its opposite ends, said cylinder being provided with inner and outer layers of conductive material, both ends ofsaid cylinder having a ciry currrferential portion free of conductive layer materialga f tube supporting metal holder positioned at each end of said cylinder out of encircling engagement therewith, said holders each having a portion defining a .resilient clamp for releasably receiving a portion of the wall thickness of said cylinder at the open ends thereof to resiliently support it in an axial as well as in a radial direction, 1 said holders each having a current supply terminal therev on, and contact strips engaged between each clamp and; I
the corresponding end portion of said cylinder, one strip providing an electrical connection between one clamp and,
the inner conductive layer, and another stripproviding an electrical connection between the secondclamp and,
the outer conductive layer. I
2. An ozonizing tube as claimed in claim 1, wherein said holders are formed by a strip of metal forming a looped portion for engagement of the edge of said cylinder, anda free end portion extending from said looped portion and adapted to be gripped for opening the loop and removing the cylinder.
3. An ozoning tube having holding and current supply means, said tube comprising a cylinder of non-conduc tive material open at its opposite ends, said cylinder being provided with inner and outer layers of conductivernaterial, both ends of said cylinder having a circumferential portion free of conductive layer material, a tube supporting metal holder positioned at each end of'said cylinder,
each of said holders having a bowed portion for releasably receiving a portion of the wall of. said cylinder, a current supply terminal on said holder, and contact strips engaged between each clamp and the corresponding end portion of said cylinder, one strip providing an electrical connection between one clamp and the inner conductive layer, and another strip providing an electrical connection between the second clamp and the outer con-f ductive layer.
