Description

May 10, 1960 J. E. DUCKRO PRICE TAG HOLDER Filed Aug. 7, 1957 INVENTOR um A TTOE'NE YS PRICE TAG HOLDER Application August 7, 1957, Serial No. 676,820
10 Claims. (Cl. 40-10) This invention relates to a price tag holder.
An object of this invention is to provide a price tag holder which is easily and readily produced, which has a minimum number of parts or elements and which firmly retains a price tag against movement thereof along the length of the holder.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a price tag holder which firmly retains any one or more of a group of price tags even if the price tags do not all have the exact same dimensions across the holder. Thus, price tags used with this holder do not have to be accurately cut.
Other objects and advantages reside in the construction of parts, the combination thereof, themethod of manufacture, and the mode of operation, as will become more apparent from the following description.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a section of a price tag holder made according to this invention with a price tag retained thereby.
Figure 2 is an enlarged end view of the price tag holder of this invention attached to a shelf and showing the method of attaching a price tag to the tag holder of this invention.
Figure 3 is an end view, similar to that of Figure 2,
showing a price tag retained by a price tag holder of this invention.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary end View of a price tag holder of this invention with a price tag retained thereby.
Figure 5 is an enlarged fragmentary end view, similar to Figure 4, of a price tag holder of this invention with a price tag of a difierent dimension retained thereby.
Referring to the drawing in detail, a price tag holder of this invention comprises an elongate body provided with a rear surface 12 adapted to be disposed horizontally along an edge of a shelf 14, as shown inFigures 2 and 3. Along the upper portion of the body 10 is a lip 16 adapted to engage the upper surface of the shelf 14 when the rear surface 12 of the body 10 engages the edge of the shelf 14.
The body 10 is provided with an arcuate or concave surface 18 opposite the surface 12. The concave surface 18 has a depression 20 therein intermediate the upper and lower portions of the concave surface 18 and extending along the length of the body 10.
The lower edge of the body 10 is provided with a groove '24 formed by an upwardly extending flange 26.
The upper edge of the body 10 is provided with a bentover flange or U-shaped bead 30, forming a channel 32 along the length of the body' 10. The U-shaped head 30 has a leg 36 extending to a position very close to the arcuate surface 18. The concave surface 18 has along the upper edge thereof a recess or depression 40 which provides an olfset portion within the channel 32 at the upper edge of the body 10. The end of the leg 36 of the bead 30 extends slightly into the recess 40. 7
An inclined surface or auxiliary surface 42, best shown V distorted and is firmly retained by a tag holder of this inice in Figures 2, 4, and 5, extends from the recess 40 outwardly toward the upper edge of the body 10.
A pliable price tag is attached to the body 10 by means of bending the price tag 50 in a convex manner, as shown in Figure 2, with the upper edge of the price tag 50 disposed within the recess 40 and the lower edge of the price tag 50 disposed within the groove 24. Then the central portion of the price tag 50 is forced toward the concave surface 18. Thus, the lower edge of the price tag 50 is forced downwardly to the bottom of the groove 24. Also, the upper edge of the price tag 56 is thus forced into the channel 32. The upper portion of the price tag 50 firmly engages the leg 36 of the bead 30 as the leg 36 forces a portion of the price tag 50 into the recess 40, as shown in Figures 3 and 4. Thus, the upper portion of the price tag 50 is abruptly bent and distorted so that the price tag 50 is firmly retained and pinched by the body 10. Therefore, the price :tag 50 may not'be easily moved along the length of the body 10.
If the price tag 50 is of sufficient dimension the upper edge of the price tag'50 engages the inclined surface 42, as shown in Figures 3 and 4, so that the upper portion of the tag 50 engages both the leg 36 and'the inclined surface 42.
As shown in Figure 5, the tag holder of this invention firmly retains a price tag even though the price tag 50 does not have sufiicient dimension to extend completely from the groove 24 to the inclined surface 42. If the price tag 50 is of sufiicient dimension to extend from the groove 24 upwardly to engagement with the bead 30,
as shown in Figures 3, 4, and S, the price tag is abruptly vention. T
Thus, the price tag holder of this invention firmly retains any one or more of a group of price tags even though all of the price tags are not cut tothe exact same dimension from the lower edge to the upper edge thereof.
The depression 20 in the arcuate surface 18 intermediate the upper and lower edges thereof provides an opening for engaging the rear surface of the price tag St} for removal thereof from the body 10 by permitting a persons fingers to pull the price tag outwardly into a con -v vex shape, as shown in Figure 2, and then to disengage the price tag fromthe holder.
Although the preferred embodiment of the device has been described, it will be understood that within the purview of this invention various changes may be made in the form, details, proportion and arrangementof parts,
the combination thereof and mode of operation, which generally stated consist in a device capable of carrying out the objects set forth, as disclosed and defined in the.
appended claims.
