1 Claim. (Cl. 46-114) This invention relates to a toy.
The object of the invention is to provide a toy which is in the nature of a sound producing device so that as a child actuates the toy, a sounding mechanism will be actuated to thereby provide amusement and recreation to the child.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toy which incorporates a novel sound producing mechanism, the toy of the present invention including a handle or rod which has a rotary wheel connected to an end thereof, so that as the wheel is rotated, a hammer will move into and out of engagement with a plurality of bells or sounding members so that children using the toy will derive much pleasure therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toy which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are used to designate like parts through the same.
Figure 1 is an elevational view illustrating the toy of the present invention.
Figure 2 is an enlarged elevational view, with parts broken away and in section.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Figure l.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral indicates the toy of the present invention, and the toy 10 includes a handle or rod 11 which has a support member 12 secured thereto in any suitable manner, as for example by welding. The numeral 13 indicates each of a pair of spaced apart sounding members or bells which are connected to the support member 12 by means of securing elements 14.
Arranged contiguous to the support member 12 is a body member 19, and the body member 19 includes a major flat portion 20 which has an arcuate flange 15 extending from an end thereof, and the flange 15 is provided with a cutout 16, Figure 2. The numeral 17 indicates a star gear which is rotatably supported, and the star gear 17 is provided with a plurality of teeth 18.
The numeral 21 indicates a hammer or gong which is mounted for movement into and out of engagement with the bells 13 so that a ringing eifect is produced when the toy is being used. The numeral 22 indicates a movable lever which has a first portion 23 that is connected to the hammer 21 by means of a pin 24. The lever 22 further includes a second portion 25 which is oifset from the first portion 23, and the second portion 25 is movably arranged in the cut-out 16 of the flange 15. As shown in Figure 3, there is provided on an end of the lever 22, a bracket 26 which is provided with a pair of spaced apart fingers 27, and the fingers 27 are adapted to selectively engage the teeth 18 of the star gear 17.

The numeral 28 designates a pivot point for the bracket 26. There is further provided an axle or shaft 30 which extends through the support member 20 and which is connected to the star gear 17, and a link 29 has one end secured to the shaft 30. The link 29 which has one end connected to the shaft 30, has its other end pivotally connected to an arm 31 by means of a pivot pin 32 The numeral 33 indicates a wheel which is rotatably connected to an end of the handle 11 by means of a connection 34. The numeral 35 indicates an off-center pin which extends outwardly from the wheel 33, and an end of the arm 31 is pivotally connected on the pin 35.
From the foregoing, it is apparent that there has been provided a toy which incorporates a novel sounding mechanism. In use, the handle 11 can be gripped by the child, and then the wheel 33 can be moved along the ground or along a wall or the like, and this rotation of the wheel 33 will cause the sounding mechanism to be continually actuated. Thus, it will be seen that as the wheel 33 rotates due to frictional engagement with the ground or the like, the arm 31 will be moved since the arm 31 is connected to the pin 35 which extends from the wheel 33. The arm 31 is pivotally connected to the link 29 by means of the pivot pin 32, so that this movement of the arm 31 will result in pivotal movement of the link 29, and since the link 29 is secured to the shaft 30, it will be seen that the shaft 30 will be rocked or rotated back and forth. The star gear 17 is secured to the shaft 30, so that there will result in back and forth rotation of the star gear 17. As the star gear 17 moves back and forth, its teeth 18 move into and out of engagement with the fingers 27 of the bracket 26, so as to cause pivotal movement of the bracket 26 about an axis extending through the pin 28. It is to be noted that the bracket 26 is formed integral with or secured to the lever 22, so that this rocking movement of the bracket 26 will cause corresponding pivotal or rocking movement of the lever 22, and since the hammer 21 is connected to an end of the lever 22 by means of the pin 24, it will be seen that the hammer 21 will move into and out of engagement with the pair of sounding members 13 so that a bell ringing effect will be produced which is highly ap pealing to youngsters or the like.
Instead of gripping the handle 11 in the hands, the member 11 may be secured to a suitable supporting structure such as a childs bicycle, wagon or the like, whereby the same bell ringing effect can be produced by permitting the wheel 33 to engage the ground.
The parts can be made of any suitable material and in diiferent shapes or sizes.
Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
I claim:
