HEEL FOR BOOTS AND SHOES.
To all whom it may concer/n:
Be it known that I, D. E. SOMES, of Biddeford, Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heels for Boots and Shoes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full7 clear, and exact description of' the same, reference being had to the accompanying' drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the employment (with a metallic heel), of the stiffener C, and the flange D, to which the sole is attached or secured, both being formed upon the heel as will be set forth.
In the drawings A, represents a hollow metallic heel. B, is a flange around its top through which nails or tacks pass to secure the heel to the inner sole.
C, is a metallic stiffener which is cast or formed upon the heel, and making a part of it. D, is a flange extending out. in front of the heel, which is pierced with holes, as
seen, through or by means of which the heel is more permanently secured to the inner sole. The sole presses against the heel on the under side of the flange, and is there secured as stated. The stiifener may be made of any required height so as to answer the purpose of preventing the heel piece from giving away and running down.
This form of heel may be made of vulcanite or other suitable hard material.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The combination of the stiffener C, and the flange D, with the metallic heel A, the same being connected and used substantially as and for the purpose specified.
