In accordance with my invention, I produce an assembled shearing section comprising a plurality of individually completed shaving units secured to a plate, or carrier, without the aid of screw-elements, forming a combined unitary structure of such plate and shaving units, wherein such unitary structure may be positioned upon the handle and secured thereto as an assembled shearing section and also be removed from such handle as an assembled shearing structure; and wherein each of the said shaving units may be removed from the said plate, or carrier, as an individually completed shaving unit, and be replaced thereon as an individually completed shaving unit, and wherein such assembled shearing section may comprise a carrier, or plate, having either one or more of such individually completed shaving units secured thereto.
To illustrate the ordinary commercial utility of my combined assembled shearing section in daily life, an assembled shearing section made in accordance with by invention, of whatever style or type it may be made, could be utilized to great advantage; the fact that in my assembled shearing section my shaving units can be secured to the plate, or carrier, Without the aid of screw-elements 'will eliminate the necessity of providing the under face,
or under portion, of the individual shaving unit with screw-threaded openings and with screw-elements for such openings. The operation of forming such small screw- 0 :threaded openings is a slow and tedious process; the comparatively thin drill used in boring such small holes break frequently, the same is true with respect to the tap used for cutting the internal screw-thread in such small opening; such instruments or tools if broken within the inner 5 portion of the opening cannot be removed and cause such portion of the shaving unit to become discarded; it
is for this reason that individual shearing units are so very costly to manufacture.
In my structure such drilling or boring of openings in the under portion of my shaving unit and the cutting of screw-threads therein is eliminated, thus greatly reducing the manufacturing cost of such unit. Such an improvement is believed to be a great contribution to the art of manufacturing electrically operated shaving implements; "it eliminates or minimizes manufacturing-waste thus spee eding-up production. Thus/an assembledshearing section, produced, in accordance-with my invention, fulfills a long-felt need in the electric razor industry. My herein invention teaches anew and unique form of structure and solves one of the most vexing problems in the art of making assembled atent shearing sections for shaving implements. My herein invention is a practical and useful structure and can be utilized to great advantage in connection with the manufacturing of electrically operated shaving implements.
The variety of possible application of my novel construction in connection with diiferent types of shaving-implements, as hereinabove indicated, is so prolific that for the purpose of illustrating the invention the specific embodimentof my invention in its application to a shavingimplement exhibiting the greatest difliculties has been selected. Such shaving-implement is one which necessarily must conform most rigidly to the contours of the portion to be shaved and one which has the field of greatest possible commercial use. For this purpose I have selected for illustration of my novel construction, a shaving-implement constituting a multiple-head electric razor, so that the principles of structure of my assembled shearing section may be best illustrated in the construction of a shaving-implement known as a multiple-head electric razor.
The objects of my invention are attained by a novel construction which will be hereinafter described and illustrated in the drawing in connection with a specific embodiment of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing in which such specific embodiment of my invention is illustrated, and described in the annexed specification, in which:

- Referring more particularly to the drawing, in which similar reference characters identify similar parts in the .several views, in the novel structure of my invention;

and numeral 6 indicates a completely assembled individual .shaving unit. v The unit 6 comprises a stationary shear member 7 and a movable or reciprocatory member 8. The plate 5- is provided with an opening 5' and the stationary member 7 is provided with under-cut or grooved flange portions, hooks orextensions 7' and 7. (Fig. l).

The side portions 14 and 14 may each be shaped to 'form acontinuation onaneven level with the upper face '16 of the carrier or plate (Fig. '1); however, if desired ' such side portion 14 and 14 may beshapedto provide upwardly projecting flange portions 18 and 18 having their end portions inclined towards each other in a manner adapted to be positioned within the grooved or channeled sections a and a (Fig. 2), wherein the flange or shoulder portions 7' and 7 may engage frictionally the under faces 16 and 16a of the plate 5 for holding the stationary shearing member 7 of the shaving unit 6 secured .tightly in its position upon the plate or carrier 5. If desired the end portions 91 of the flange portions 18 and 18 may engage the inner wall portions of the grooved sections a and a thus holding the unit 6 in a locked manner in its position upon the plate 5.
If desired, the lug 12 may consist of a single structure; that is, the base portion 6" of the stationary shearing member 7 of the shaving unit 6, may be provided with a lug portion of suitable size in length having two side shoulders or flange-portions for engaging the under face of the plate to which it is attached. However, it being understood, that such base portion 6" may be provided with more than one lug portion; for example as shown in 'Fig. 5, wherein the base portions 6" is provided with two lug portions 21 and 22 having shoulder portions or flange portions 21 and 22'; and the plate or carrier 5a may be provided with-two openings 5a and 5b, each having an enlarged open portion 5a" and 5b" for having such shouldered flange portions, of the lugs 21 and 22, pass therethrough and be moved into the openings 5a and 5b to engage the under face C of such carrier or plate 5a.
Or, such unit 6 may be provided with a plurality of such flange portions, each formed or shaped in any suitable manner or style, for example as shown in Figs. 1 and 6; wherein the base portion 6 of the section d "(which is broken away from the stationary shearing member 7 of the shaving unit 6) is provided with four individual flange portions 24, each having a lug portion 25 terminating into a hook-shaped or angularly disposed flange portion 26; and the carrier or plate 5d is provided with a plurality of apertures or openings 5d for having the flange portions 26 pass therethrough and be moved into position in a manner whereby the under face of such flange portions 26 may be caused to engage frictionally "the under face 5d of such plate 5d thus securing the stationary shearing member 7 tightly into position upon the upper face 28 of the carrier or plate 5d.
The disclosures herein are for illustrative purposes only and not for limitation purposes. For example, the carrier or plate of each set may be provided with several rows of openings, as indicated by the numerals 31 and 32 (Figs. 5 and 6), to hold several individually assembled units, for example such as 2, 2' and 2" (Fig. 1). Or the base portion of each individual unit may be provided with any desirable number of flange portions, shaped or formed in any suitable manner or style. Or such flange portions may be punched-out or otherwise shaped or formed of a portion of the under section or base portion 6" of the stationary shearing member 7 of the unit 6. For example as shown in Fig. 7; wherein the lower end section K of the shaving unit 6 is provided with flange portions 33 and 34 punched-out of the openings 33' and 34' of such lower end section K, for passing through the openings 37 and 37' of the plate or carrier E to engage frictionally the under face of such plate E as shown at numeral 39.
If desired, the flange portions (for engaging the under iface of the carrier or plate as described above) may each be provided with curved or beveled front portions 41 (Figs. 6 and 7) serving as leaders .to facilitate the operation ofsuch flange portions while engaging the under face of the carrier and to hold the shaving unit secured, frictionally, in its position upon such carrier.
From the above it is clear that by placing the flange portions of my shaving units into the openings of my carrier or plate 5 I unite my said shaving units and said plate into a unitary structure and thus provide a practically assembled shearing section as indicated by arrow T (Figs. 1 and 3).
Also, the fact that I assemble my shearing section without the use of screw-threaded elements will greatly reduce the manufacturing cost of such assembled shearing section.
The carrier or plate of my assembled shearing section may be provided with wall portions 42 each having an opening 43, for a purpose'which will be hereinafter explaincd.
The handle L may be provided with suitable means for supporting or carrying thereon my assembled shearing section. For illustrative purposes I am showing such means in the shape of a recessed portion N which is provided with two wall portions 45 and 46, each having a recessed opening 47 for carrying a screw-threaded element 48; so that when my assembled shearing section arrow T is placed into position within such recessed portion N, the screw-threaded elements 48 may then be rotated into desired direction, having their end portions 49 engage the openings 43 and thus hold the assembled shearing section secured within the recessed portion N in position for shaving purposes. Rotating the screw elements 48 into opposite direction will withdraw the end portions 49 from the openings 43 thus permitting the removal of the assembled shearing section from its position within such recessed portion N. It being understood that various other suitable means may be utilized for holding my assembled shearing section in desired position upon the handle L for shaving purposes.
Each of the illustrated plates or carriers herein is provided with a centrally-located opening 51, and the under section or base portion 6" of the stationary shearing member 7 is provided with a through opening 52 located in alignment with the opening 51 when such stationary shearing member is secured to the plate or carrier. The movable or reciprocatory shearing member 8 is provided with a recessed opening or slotted section 53 (Fig. 4) having angularly disposed or beveled wall portions 54, so that when the assembled shearing section arrow T is placed into position within the recessed portion arrow N an actuating member 55 (of a motor not shown) will pass through the openings 51 and 52 and seat itself within the recessed opening 53 of the movable shearing member 8 for reciprocating such shearing member for shaving purposes. The opening 52 is of a size larger than that of the slot or opening 53 so that the actuating element 55 may move freely therein when moving or reciprocating the movable shearing member 8 within the shearing member 7.
The handle L is provided with a cable-cord 57 having a plug 56 secured thereto, so that when such plug 56 is connected to a source of power, a turn of the starter 58 into desired direction will cause the motor ,(not shown) to operate and move the actuating element 55, which in turn will move or reciprocate the inner movable shearing member 8 within the stationary shearing member 7 for shaving purposes.
For a clearer understanding of the invention, I am showing the shaving unit 6 in Fig. 5, and the lower broken-away portion d of the shaving .unit in Fig. 6, in a reversed position, that is, with the under-face of such unit upwardly to show clearly the structure thereof; for the same reason I am showing the broken-away under portion K of the shaving unit 6 (Fig. 7), with the broken-away portion E of the plate or carrier, in a reversed position to show clearly the manner in which the flange portions of the shaving unit may engage frictionally the under-face of the carrier or plate for seeming tightly such shaving unit to the plate or carrier. It is naturally understood that these disclosures are for illustrative purposes only and not for limitation purposes and that the carrier or plate, or thefiange portions of the shaving units, may be shaped in any desirable manner, or the openings in the plate may be shaped in any suitable style for the purpose of having such flange portions pass therethrough and engage frictionally the under-face of such plate or carrier to hold such shaving units secured tightly in its position upon such plate or carrier, forming or uniting such carrier or plate and shaving units into an assembled unitary structure positionable within the recessed portion of the handle as an assembled shearing section. Such assembled shearing section may be secured into shaving position within such recessed portion by various suitable means, as an assembled unitary structure, and be removed therefrom as a unitary structure.
From the above it is clear that my invention teaches an entirely new and unique form of structure in the art of making assembled shearing sections. The novel form, or manner, in which my individually assembled shaving units can be secured to the plate or carrier without the use of screw-elements, greatly reduces manufacturing waste. serting flange or shoulder portions of the shaving unit into openings within the carrier or plate and have such flange portions'engage the under-face of such carrier for holding such shaving unit tightly secured to the upper face of such carrier establishes an entirely new and modern principle in the construction of assembled shearing sections. It creates an assembled shearing section of a new and useful design, a structure which is practical and economical to manufacture; and although I have shown certain preferred forms or illustrations in order to explain and describe the novelty of my invention, yet, I do not, by any means, limit myself to these structures, nor to the terms used in describing same, as they are for illustrative purposes only. Various suggestions and changes of structure may be resorted to, and I desire it to be understood that I have same in mind when showing and describing this invention, and seek protection by Letters Patent. And although I have mentioned in describing this invention of what material certain parts may be made, how they may be formed, shaped or styled, and how they may be assembled, yet I desire it to be understood that this structure, or parts thereof, may be made of any suitable material, and shaped, formed, styled or arranged in any desirable manner, so that it can be conveniently assembled and easily taken apart, removed, cleaned, replaced and reassembled, and that various changes in detail may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of this invention.
I claim:
1. 2. In a structure as set forth in. claim 1, wherein the said meansof the said handle comprises a recessed portion for having the'said assembled shearing section positioned therein and secured thereto.
3. In a structure as set forth in claim 1, wherein parts of the said flange portions are of angular shape formation.

An assembled shearing section for an electrically operated shaving implement provided with means for being secured to a handle structure to be held in position for shaving purposes, said assembled shearing section comprising a plate carrying thereon a plurality of separate individually assembled shaving units, said plate having a plurality of spaced apart openings, each of the said shaving units comprising a stationary shearing member having associated therewith a reciprocatory shearmember for shaving purposes, each of the said-stationary shearing members having a base portion, the said base portions having flange portions, said flange portions positionable within the said openings of the said plate for holding the said shaving units in postion upon the said plate for the said shaving purposes, the said flange portions each comprising a depending integral part of the said base portion extending beyond such base portion, the said flange portions each having outwardly extending portions extending laterally from the part thereof which is connected to the said base portion, said out wardly extending portions for securing the said shaving unit in position upon the said plate for purposes.
