1 G. W. ROB'BURTS.`
r BALING PRESS. l No. 292,952. Patented Feb. 51 1884.
INVENTOR ATTORN EY5 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE XV. ROBBURTS, OF ELMO, TEXAS, ASSIGNOR OF TVO-THIRDS TO JOHN E.' POLE AND HENRY E.
HART, BOTH OFy SAME PLACE.
BALlNG-PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,952, dated February 5, 1884. Application filed April 4, 1883. Renewed January 0,1884. (No model.)
fo all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE XV. ROBBUETs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elmo, in the county of Kaufman and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Baling- Press, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad tothe accompanying drawings.
This invention rela-tes to balingpresses; 1o and it consists in certain improvements in the machine for which Letters Patent of the United States No. 263,431 were granted to myself on the v29th day of August, 1882.
The nature and object of my present improvement will tbe hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim. 4 In the drawings hereto annexed, Figurel is a horizontal section on line x x, Eig. 2, and 2o Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, of my improved baling-press.
The same letters refer to the same parts in all the figures.
A designates the frame, which comprises 2 5 the base-blocks B, sill C, vertical standards or side pieces, D, and transverse top piece or cap, E. To the under side of the latter, between brackets or hangers F F, are hinged two arms, G G, the lower ends of which are hinged between the side plates, HH, of elbow-blocks I. i J .T are corresponding arms hinged to the under sides of the elbow-blocks I I, between the 4plates I-I H, and extending downwardly, their lower ends being hinged between straps 3 5 near the ends ofthe follower K.
L L are levers pivoted upon horizontal crosspie'ces M M, which connect the side pieces or standards, D. Links or straps N O connect the levers at opposite sides of their fulcrums with 4o the elbow-blocks I I, which may thus be manipulated so as to operate the follower. This entire mechanism is shown in my patent above referred to, and is not herein claimed.
The sill G of the machine is provided with blocks or fulcrums I P, upon which arepivsill, and having inner beveled ends, a followoted levers Q Q, the inner ends of which are beveled, as at R, and connected by joints S with the beveled ends rof a follow-block, T. The outer ends of the levers QQ are connect ed with the follower K by rods U. 1 The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood. Vhen the levers L L are operated so as to move the follower K, the latter, through the rods U and levers Q, communicates a motionin the opposite direction to the follow-block T, thuscompressing the bale between the latter and the follower K. By this double action power `is gained, and the bale is compressedmore evenly throughout than if acted upon by the single 6o follower only.
I claim as my invention and desire to se cure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. In a baling-press, the combination of the sill having uprights or fulcrums, levers mounted upon the latter, a follow-block connected to the inner ends of said levers by loose joints,
a vertically-sliding follower, rods connecting the outer ends of said follower with the outer ends of the levers, and mechanism for operat- 7o ing the follower, substantially as described;V
2. Ina baling-press, the combination of the follower moving vertically above the sill, levers pivoted to uprights or fulcrums upon the 7 5 block loosely jointed between the-inner ends of said levers, and having beveled ends registering with the beveled ends of the levers, whereby close joints are formed, rods connecting the outer ends of the levers with the fol- 8O lower, and suitable operating mechanism, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE YV. ROBBURTS..
