LOUIS DANDREE, OF RIGA, RUSSIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND LUHYVIG LOEWE 8: 00., OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
ROTARY STEAM-ENGINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,899, dated February 5, 1824.
Application filed June 22, 1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS DANDREE, engineer, residing at Riga-,- in the Empire of Bussia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rotary Steam-Engines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to rotary steamengines; and it consists in the construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and then set forth in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure l is a transverse section of a rotary engine constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a front view [5 thereof. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, and
Fig. 4 is a top view.
The steam or working cylinder A is mounted on a suitable base plate or frame, and contains an eccentric piston, B, which is keyed 011 a shaft, 0, having its hearings in the end heads of the cylinder and in supports beyond the latter. The piston is formed with a radial slot, D, (shown in Figs. 1 and 3,) which opens in the steam-outlet port or channel E. (Shown in dotted lines in Fig.1.) The steam-cylinder is provided with a steam-outlet pipe, G, and at the top it has a cut-off slide or abutment, F, which is formed with a convex face inserted into a concave seat in the bottom of a carrierinsured between the piston' and abutment in all the positions the former may assume. The carrier-piece F is packed steam-tight in a chamber in the top of the cylinder, and is 3 5 pressed in a downward direction by means of two spiral springs, f. The steam from the boiler passes through the pipe P and port H in the cylinder-head into the radial slot D of the piston, and from thence it issues through of the steam taking place as soon as the mouth E of the channel E has, by reason of the rotation of the piston, passed in rear of the cut-off slide. The entrance of the steam into the cylinder continues until the radial slot D has 5 passed the inlet opening or port H in the cylinder-head, when the steam acts expansively for turning the piston. The amount of steam admitted into the cylinder as the workingforce is determined by the length of the radial slot D, as is readily apparent.
G is a pipe and port for the escape of the exhaust steam.
I have in the present instance shown only one piston, but I may construct a twin engine with two pistons, arranged at an angle of one hundred and eighty degrees in relation to each other.
I am aware of the existence of a rotary steam-engine having a piston orwheel which 6c is placed eccentrically within a casing, and has slots for the reception of sliding valves or abutments' that are forced against the casing by the action of the steam.
Having thus described myinventiomwhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a rotary steamengine, the combination of the eccentric-piston B, having the radial slot D, leading from the side face of the piston, and the channel E, extending from said slot to the periphery of the piston, with the cylinder A, the cut-off slide F, fitted in the latter, the steam-inlet port H, and steam-outlet port G, all constructed and relatively arranged as 7 5 herein set forth, for the'purpose specified.
- In testimonywhereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
