ROD FOR SAW FRAMES. 9 1 Pa-tented Jan. 29, 18 84.

UN TED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JoHN M. KOEBERLE, OF rHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ROD FOR SAW-FRAM ES.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 292,494, dated January 29, 1884.
Application filed August 31,1883. (No model.)
1'0 aZZ whom, it may COIN/067W;
Be it known that I, JOHN M. KOEBERLE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rods for Saw-Frames, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in Which Figure l is a side elevation of a saw-frame with the rod embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top or plan view, partly sectional, of a portion of the rod enlarged. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a detached portion thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists of a rod for a sawframe formed of T-shaped pieces, to the heads of which the yokes are journaled, the legs thereof being threaded for engagement with the swivel, whereby the yokes and heads a e connected in a firm and serviceable manner, as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
Referringto the drawings, A represents a saw-blade, which is attached to the frame B, both of usual construction. 0 represents the rod of the frame, consisting of the yokes D,
heads of the pieces E, the portions of the yokes adjacent to the journals resting in.the grooves c. The lips b are then bent over the journals a, thus connecting the yokes with the pieces E and permitting the journals to turn or rotate on the heads of said pieces, said heads thus'forming bearings for the journal ends of the yokes. The lips I) prevent updisplacement of the journals a, and the central lip entering between the limbs of the yoke adjacent to the journals prevents said journals from approaching or closing,-and consequent displacement of the same by inward movement. When the yokes are fitted to the frame B, the rod is readily tightened by the operation of the swivel F, and, owing to the journaled connection of the pieces E and yokes, the rod is straightened, and the sawframe tightened without twisting said connection or imparting irregular motions thereto, and the elasticity of the yokes is preserved, so that a strong, durable, and serviceable rod is produced.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is i 1 1. A rod for a saw-frame, consisting of a swivel, a yoke, the ends whereof are formed with journals, and a piece having a recessed head forming the bearings of said journals,
the end of the piece being connected with the swivel, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. 2. In a saw-frame rod, a headed piece receivingthe journals of the yoke,v formed with lips which are bent over the journals, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a saw-frame rod, a headed piece receiving the journals of the yoke, formed with a central lip which limits the inward motions of the limbs of the yoke, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
v4.. In a saw-frame rod, a headed piece receiving the journals of the yoke and engaging. with a screw-swivel, said piece having lips which cover said journals, and av central lip projecting between the ends of the yoke adjacent to said journals, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
' JOHN M. KOEBERLE.
