SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,448, dated January 22, 1881,
Application filed June 11. 188'].
(No model.)
Io'aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. SWIFT, a resident of the city of Columbus, county of Muscogee and State of Georgia, have invented a certain newand useful Improvement in Plow-Points; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description of thesarne, reference being bad to the annexed drawing, making a part of this specification. I
My invention consists in the combination, with a plow-point having its forward portion provided with a vertical blade, of a fasteningbolt provided with a longitudinally-grooved head adapted to fit over the upper edge of the cutting-blade, and thereby serve as. a brace for the same, as hereinafter described.
My invention will be readily understood by referring to the accompanying drawings, whereon the same is clearly shown.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the imthe same, with a bolt for securing it to the plow-standard and at same time bracing the cutting-blade.
The letter A designates the plow-point,
which maybe of any desired shape or size,
with a vertical blade, B, formed on its for-' ward portion. The aforesaid blade extends from the point to within an inch or two of the uppermost part of the plow-point, which is provided on a prolongation of the line of the blade with a bolt-hole, c, for the reception of a bolt, D, whereby it is secured to the plow standard. The head of theaforesaid bolt D is provided with a longitudinal groove, 6, adapted to fit the upper edge of the cuttingblade B, so as to form'a brace for the same, and thereby prevent its being broken or wrenched off. The head of the bolt'inay be made of any desired shape. A triangular-shaped head is, however, preferred, for the reason that if the-groove is madein one of the edges thereof the adjacent sides will rather assist than retard in the turning of the soil.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A. plow-point having its forward portion provided with a vertical cutting-blade, in combination with a fastening-bolt having a longi tudinally-grooved head adapted to fit over the upper edge of the blade, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
