PATENT OFFICE. 1'
0E EAST NEW YORK, N. Y.
SAW-ENVELOPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,369, dated January 22, 1884.
Application filed November 13, 1883.
To all whom itWL/LZ/ concern:
.Be it known that I, FREDERIcK ScHLficnr; NER, of East New York, Kings county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Saw Envelopes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improvement, shown as applied to a saw,and part being broken away. 2 shows the envelope reversed. Fig. 3 shows a modified form of the same. Fig. 4 shows a modification of the fast ening-strap.
The object of this invention is to prevent envelopes from dropping off saws when the said saws are handled.
The invention consists in a saw-envelope made with a fastening-strap provided at one or both ends with a cross-head to engage with slits in the said envelope and fasten the said envelope in place upon a saw. In the side of the envelope is formed an aperture to display the figure indicating the number of teeth to an inch in the saw, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents a saw-envelope, which is made of such a shape and size as to fit loosely upon the saw-blade B.
Upon one side of the open larger end of the envelope A is formed a strap, 0, which is passed through the saw-handle D, and has a cross-head, E, formed upon its free end. The ends of the cross-head E are inserted in slits F, made in the side of the envelope A, as
(No model.)
the envelope A, or it may be cemented at one end to one side of the open larger end of the envelope, as shown in Fig. 2, or it may be'detachably secured at bothends to the sides of 5 the envelope A by cross-heads E and slits F.
In the envelope A is formed an aperture, G, in such a position that the figure indicating the number of the saw-teeth to an inch can be seen through it, as 'shown in -Fig. 1, so that it n will not be necessary to remove the envelope to see what grade of teeth the saw may have.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A saw envelope made substantially as herein shown and described, with afasteningstrap detachable at one or both ends, for securing the envelope in place upon the saw, and provided with an aperture to display the figure indicating the number of teeth to the inch in the saw, as set forth.
2. The combination, with asaw-envelope, A. of the fasteningstrap 0, provided at one or both ends with a cross-head, E, to engage with slits Fin the said envelope, substantially as herein shown and described, ,whereby the said envelope'will be held securely in place and can be readily detached, as set forth.
3. A saw-envelope provided'with an aperture, G, for displaying the figure indicating the number of teeth to an inch in the saw, as set forth.
FRED. SOHLUGHTNER.
