CAR-COUPLING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 292,278, dated January 22, 1884.
Application filed September 13,1853.
To all whom, it 71mg concern:
Be it known that I, GHARLEs W. BOND, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Oar- 'Coup1ings, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists of certain improvements inA car-couplings, which will be fully understood from the following description and claim.

tached tothe heel thereof, so that the coupling-link may have a horizontal swing in passing the draft-pin E on the opposite car. This draft-pin drops into a hole in the bumper-y head, and is also supported by an arm, F, Fig. 2, considerable space being allowed between the bumper and the arm F, so that the hook C will not strike the bumper or the arm in coupling cars of different heights. The lever G extends horizontally to the side of the cars, and serves to lock and unlock thev coupling-hook, t-he end of lever G being arranged to drop into the locking-bar H, which is provided with several notches, h.
Having described my invention, what I claim is- The pivoted hook or coupling-link O, provided with the spring D, in combination with the draft-pinV E upon the opposite car, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. CHAS. BOND. Witnesses:
